Cilwendeg Rally Report and Results.
By Anwen Francis
Seriously icy conditions of minus three in places didn’t deter Cilwendeg Road Rally 2016 driver Kevin Davies and navigator Dale Bowen winning the event. This is the third time for Llanfihangel Ar Arth driver Kevin to have won the Cilwendeg after winning it in 2011 with Dale Furness and in 2013 with Dale Bowen.
“To be honest, it was a very tough night with the weather, but I had a good team, it was great fun and it all came together. The event was spot on and all on tarmac with only two small whites, it was a good event,” said Kevin.
Organised by the Teifi Valley Motor Club (TVMC), 90 cars took to the local roads in the competition that was part of the Welsh Road Rally Championship (WAMC) and the Association of North Western Clubs (ANWCC). Considering the icy conditions, a high number of 68 cars finished the rally, sponsored by Forge Garage of Aberaeron.
Clerk of the Course, Richard ‘Dicky’ Evans was delighted with the success of the rally.
“It was a good rally with no complaints, there were no injuries and competitors thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We now how the task of clearing up.”
Olwen Davies, secretary of the TVMC since 1991 thought the event had gone really well and can only praise all involved.
She said: “It was quite good because everyone worked together. The weather wasn’t too bad for the competitors, it was the marshals who had to cope with the cold.”
The Teifi Valley Motor Club would like to thank all competitors, marshals, householders, farm owners, the scrutineering venue, petrol stop and everyone else involved for ensuring that the rally once again was a huge success.
