Costcutter Division 1
There were red cards, studs flying and plenty of tension at the King George but it was the same old story for Cardigan Town as opponents Newcastle Emlyn completed a double over the reigning champions in a disappointing game.
The Magpies who have 
been very inconsistent of late made life very difficult for themselves when they were reduced to ten men early on when Sam Hall was sent off for a dangerous tackle but they battled hard and there was not much to choose between the teams.
Dafydd Owens opened the scoring for the reds when the ball dropped kindly to him in the box and he picked his spot, and towards the end of the half Daniel Davies made a run from deep before he was bundled over in the box and John Curran tucked away the penalty.
The second half was a bit of a flat affair with the red carding of Steve Hicks for his second bookable offence, livening things up a bit but the game never reached any heights and Emlyn were worthy winners in the end.
Lampeter Town could only muster a bare eleven for their local derby with Dewi Stars after a number of players pulled out last minute. However this didn’t stop Terry Jones and his men taking a 3-0 lead after half an hour with goals from Gethin Hunter who bagged a brace and Szymon Konwiak.
The Stars though hit back with goals from Liam Jones and Andrew Jones to make it 3-2 before the hosts added another through Robert Slawkowski to give themselves a two-goal cushion at the break.
Dewi Stars responded positively in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal from Deian Williams before Terry Witts made the game safe to seal the three points for his team.
New Quay had reason to be cheerful on Saturday night after they collected their first win of the season thanks to goals from Aaron McCarthy, Charlie Dent, Glenn Baldwin and Charles Harvey. The seasiders who along with opponents Bargod Rangers have struggled for players this season, were well worth their win. Rangers though who were hit hard by the loss of key player’s preseason have yet to get going and are beginning to look dead certs for relegation even at this early stage of the campaign.
Division 2
Ffostrasol came out on top in the match of the day in division two and deservedly so as they took their chances well and looked the fitter of the two teams.
The game was never a classic but after the initial sparring in the first quarter it was the home side who took advantage of poor marking from a corner when Kieran Harman floated a cross into the box and Blues midfielder Dan Jones nodding a good header home to take the lead.
This proved to be a wakeup call for the Wanderers and they hit back with two goals. The first of these came when Dion Phillips who capitalised on a mistake in the hosts defence and soon afterwards Carwyn Morgan scored a great header just before half time, this following a period where Maesglas looked to be in control.
Ffostrasol were far better after the break and dominated for long periods and Phillips added a second when he latched on to a poor clearance out of defence and he dribbled his way into the box and fired home for a super goal.
Maesglas hit back when some good work by Billy Myers, Kieran Harman, and Sambo Ndong set up Aaron Eldridge for a shot he couldn’t really miss to put the Blues back in the hunt, but the visitors secured the win just a few minutes later when Morgan met a cross with a superb volley to cap a fine win for his team.
Aberporth doubled their league score for the season as anticipated when they fired ten past a hapless SDUC outfit. Mike King took full advantage of some generous defending and scored four as did Reece Prowse and there was one each for Jonny Kinsella and Adam Narbett.
Reserves Cup.
Llandysul moved clear at the top of the table after they defeated nearest rivals Lampeter Reserves by 2-0.
The Swallows started on fire again in this important clash and scored early thanks to a brilliant piece of skill from Kayne Poulton who managed to lob the keeper from 15 yards out.
This entertaining game which produced its fair share of hard challenges was locked at 1-0 until ten minutes to go when a shot from Jack Thomas was palmed away by the Lampeter keeper, but Chris Harris was on hand to pick up the scraps and put the game to bed at 2-0.
Lampeter then threw everything at Llandysul in last five minutes but a super save from Dafydd Williams and another off the line clearance, by Dyfan Davies enabled the hosts to keep a clean sheet in what was their best all round team performance of the season.
In the other two games played Bargod Res lost out by 4-1 to Ffostrasol Res and Llanboidy Reserves were edged out 7-5 against Crannog Reserves
Cwpan Dai Dynamo
A superb all round team performance by Crannog robbed Llandysul of their 100% record for the season and offered hope to the teams fighting it out at the top of the Costcutter League.
Chris Davies and his team have been outstanding in recent months, brushing aside all that have come into their path and many observers have all but given up on the title going to any other club. However, the Swallows who were missing key cogs in hard tackling midfielder Ben Thomas and in form striker Adrian Hazelby, were undone despite a huge effort with the Llangrannog men producing a very strong and determined showing.
It was the hosts who started well and they caused the visitors defence a lot of trouble and forced their keeper Jon Durbridge into make some sharp saves, but it was Llandysul who got the first goal when Ian Barrett headed home from a corner.
Some teams may well have buckled at this point considering the recent record of Llandysul but the hosts kept their heads and equalised soon after when George Colven cut back on to his less favoured right foot and smashed the ball across the keeper into the top corner.
Simon Davies had a shot saved by Rhydian Morgan at the other end and the outstanding home defence were superb on the day with skipper Mike Glover and Roberts looking comfortable and assured throughout. Crannog then went ahead when hard running midfielder Huw Reed glanced a header home from a pin point free kick by fellow midfielder Rhys Davies to make it 2-1.
Llandysul started very positively in the second half but Glover did a great job in keeping the shackles on striker Davies and the home defence were never really threatened apart from the occasional scare.
Eventually, with just ten minutes left Llandysul got their second when Mathew Newbold scored and Crannog started to look tired, but front runner George Colven struck at just the right time when he got the winner with two minutes to go.
Llandysul picked the ball out of their own net and went straight back to the half way line and from the restart Dean Jones lobbed keeper Morgan and the ball sailed into the goal but the official in charge disallowed it as not all the Crannog players had returned to their own half and the home team went through.
St Dogmaels coasted to victory away at Pencader but they were indebted to goal keeper Justin Smith for keeping them in the game with a string of brilliant saves.
Pencader who had not played for three weeks we were a bit sluggish in the first half and found themselves 2-0 down at the break following goals from Chris Morgan and Chris Jones. Hosts manager Kevin Evans changed the formation of his team for the second half and they looked good at times and were awarded a penalty early on which was well saved by St Dogmaels keeper Justin Smith who pulled off a number of excellent saves on the day.
A goal finally came for the hosts when Daniel Jones netted with a brilliant finish and they then hit the crossbar soon afterwards but the Saints wrapped things up when John Midgley fired home to complete a win the visitors just about deserved overall in what was an entertaining contest.
Felinfach edged out Cilgerran Rovers with a goal from Owain Evans in another well fought cup match which either team could have won.
The match started off at a decent pace with chances being created at both ends but it was Felinfach who got the opener when Lee Fforester fired home from a free kick with the very strong sun hampering the custodian’s effort to save the shot
Rovers bounced back and applied the pressure on the milkmen and were rewarded for their hard work when striker Dan Bellis latched on to a through ball by second half substitute Dion Phillips to level at 1-1.
Rovers were unlucky not to add another soon afterwards when Aaron Williams went close with a well struck free kick that hit a post and John Williams saw a header brush the crossbar.
Felinfach finished strongly and they took full advantage of a poor clearance and picked the loose ball up midway in the rover’s half and after some good inter passing they got their second goal when Owain Evans found the net with a powerful shot into the bottom corner
With just five minutes remaining and Rovers pushing hard for an equaliser Felinfach broke through only for Evans to be pulled back by defender Dan Rogers and this left referee Llyr Evans with no choice but to give him the red card, but this was nevertheless a hard-fought encounter which could have gone either way.
