LLANDYSUL UP TO THIRD

South Wales Hockey League Division 1

Milford 0 Llandysul 5:

Llandysul returned to action after a three week lay off and their five goal demolition of Milford Haven has pushed the Ceredigion side up into third place in the table.

The weather conditions were once again very difficult with a strong wind blowing in from the Haven coupled with blistering cold temperatures but both teams agreed to continue with the match.

The game started slowly with the strong wind making life very tough and it was difficult to get any flow to the play and at one point both teams had to leave the pitch because of a hail storm and gale force wind!

Two goal hero Michelle Davies

Chances to attack were few and far between in the first half and both midfields ruled the game and it came as no surprise that the half ended scoreless.

The second half started in much the same vain but Llandysul raised their tempo of play and they came close to scoring the opening goal but a clean strike from Michelle Davies came back off the post and the Milford defence cleared the ball. But a goal eventually arrived when Llandysul were awarded a penalty corner and Gwenan Evans slotted the ball home with an excellent strike from the edge of the circle. After this the wind settled a little and the sun came out and Llandysul started to dominate the game.

The visitors second goal came from some good work by player of the game Emma Jac Davies and Rhiannon Farr to find Erin Morgan who attacked down the right wing and crossed the ball into the middle of the circle where Betsan Evans was waiting ready to strike the ball into the goal. The visitors kept pressing and the Milford defence had to work hard to break down the attacks but in failing to clear from the circle Michelle Davies picked up the ball and fired home for the third goal, putting the game beyond Milford Haven

Llandysul were moving the ball very confidently by this stage and a fourth goal came following good work again by Emma Jac Davies in midfield to find Tracey Davies on the wing with a fine pass. The experienced striker worked her way through the defence and passed to Michelle Davies in the circle who took the ball and shot with one touch to score an excellent goal.

Although tested on just a few occasions the Llandysul defence of Elen Williams, Gwenan Evans and Mared Jones stood firm.

As the game drew to a close there was a fifth goal for the Ceredigion ladies following good work by Ffion Davies to find Rhiannon Farr in the circle and she passed to Betsan Evans who scored her second goal of the game with a fine shot to complete the scoring at 5-0.

Llandysul entertain Cardiff University 3rds this Saturday.
