CARDIGAN AND LAMPETER DOMINATE

CEREDIGION COUNTY MENS BOWLING FINALS 2019

Cardigan and Lampeter Bowling clubs dominated proceedings at the Annual Ceredigion County Bowling Finals with most of the top honours being claimed by Cardigan.

The 2018 British Isles Singles finalist Kevin James picked up the open singles title for the third year in succession and he is the only player ever to do so. He and his brother Colin James lifted the pairs title as well as the rinks in which another member of the James family in Marc played a key role.

The reigning singles champion was up against Nick Randall in the first to 21 show down but the Lampeter man could not match the drawing skills of the Cardigan postman and he went down 21-6.

In the pairs the James duo enjoyed a comfortable victory over the Lampeter pairing of Andrew Wilson and Henry Jones and they added their third title of the week in the fours when they were joined by Marc James and Paul Monders.

Paul Monders

This rinks affair against the Lampeter four of Aled Roberts, Emlyn Dudley, Emyr Thomas and Nick Randall was a very close fought encounter and the north road men will have felt hard done by to lose out with only one shot in it after 21 ends with the Cardigan four edging the contest by 19-18.

The Cardigan triumvirate of Dilwyn Jones, Gethin Davies and skip Paul Monders were victorious in the triples after they defeated the Queens Road trio of Mike James, Brian Davies and Jamie James by 22-12.

Hari Butten

One of the best matches of the week was the under 25 singles final between Hari Butten of Lampeter and Iwan Davies of Cardigan and this was a tight and tense tussle throughout with little to choose between the two young players. However Butten managed to hold his nerve to take the title by 21-19 but Davies was very impressive on the night. George Monders of Cardigan claimed the under 18’s title by virtue of being the only entry this year.

Llandysul BC picked up two titles in the senior competitions with Martin Cross beating John Jones by 21-11 in the singles and in the pairs the combination of John Williams and Robert Davies came through for a 19-17 win against the Lampeter duo of Ron Thomas and Steve Entwistle.

Thomas and Entwistle though made up for this by being a part of the trio that were victorious in the senior triples. They were joined by Elfan James and they managed to sneak through against the Llandysul three of John D Evans, Robert Davies and Martin Cross by 16-14.

The same Lampeter trio who were joined by Ieuan Jones were successful again in the senior rinks after they defeated the Cardigan rink of Andre Bann, Dilwyn Jones, Mike Williams and Paul Edwards 20-13.

All the winners will play in the National Finals which will be held in Llandrindod Wells next month.

Tim Butten

In the two wood competition played earlier in the season Tim Butten of Lampeter defeated Brian Davies of Queens Road.

In the two wood pairs William Jones and John Jones of Tregaron lifted the trophy and Rhun Jones of Lampeter picked up the under 16 singles title after beating Osian Jones of Tregaron.
