CARDIGAN CLAIM DERBY WIN

Division 3 west

Cardigan 37 Tregaron 11

Ceredigion rivals Cardigan and Tregaron enjoyed a full bloodied battle at the King George with the hosts eventually coming through for a comfortable win and one which was well deserved.

It was Tregaron though who opened the scoring when fly half Huw Bonner slotted over an early penalty but this was followed up by a three pointer from the boot of stand in number ten Emyr Harries who normally plays at centre. Harries enjoyed a superb afternoon with the boot as he added a total of 17 points with four conversions, two penalties and a drop goal.

Cardigan skipper John Lumb

Cardigan then took the lead when skipper and centre John Lumb fielded a high ball on the half way and he brushed off a number of tackles before crossing the whitewash for the first try of the game which was converted by Harries.

The visitors hit back with their second score when Bonner added another penalty before Cardigan crossed for their best try of the game through Kieran Hurley. This move involved most of the home team with some slick passing across the field with the final long pass from hooker Luke Palmer Davies to winger Hurley sublime. The touchline conversion from Harries was also top drawer.

eight Colin Davies

Cardigan gradually took control through their forwards with Dylan Davies and Colin Davies smashing holes in the Tregaron defence and the home pack rucking superbly but it was Tregaron who scored next when prop Dorian Pugh crashed over following some very patient driving play by Pugh and his colleagues in the pack.

Turning around at 20-11 Tregaron were still well in this game but their opponents slowly turned the screw and increased the lead when Harries chipped over a drop goal and a try soon followed when number eight Colin Davies barged his way over from a front peel at a line out and the conversion by Harries put Cardigan ahead by 30-11.

http://www.rjfinancialplanning.co.uk/Davies added another try after Tregaron had been reduced to thirteen players following yellow cards for hands in a ruck and a high tackle and this pushover try and the conversion by Harries put the home team out of sight. The Ceredigion all blacks mounted one final charge in the dying minutes but they were held up just short of the try line and Cardigan came through for the win.
