COSTCUTTER CLUBS FLYING HIGH

COSTCUTTER LEAGUE: CUP AND LEAGUE ROUND UP

Ceredigion Costcutter League teams Llandysul and Ffostrasol kept the flag flying for the south with excellent wins against the odds in the Central Wales Cup.

The Wanderers who have been blowing hot and cold in the league this season managed to lower the colours of Cambrian Tyres high fliers Tregaron Turfs and on the road to boot. The Turfs who this season boast a league return of six wins from eight, started well enough but they were stung by a long range free kick from Iolo Thomas.

Thomas bagged his second goal to level matters before goals from Mark Bowen and a superb effort from Steffan Evans sealed a well deserved victory.

Llandysul accounted for mid Wales League outfit Dolgellau Athletic by 2-0 but they were indebted to new keeper Dafydd Jones for pulling off a number of crucial saves to deny the visitors. The Swallows who are on an excellent run of form were forced to work hard in the opening half as their opponents who play in a higher tier took the game to them but Dean Jones and co were outstanding in defence alongside keeper Jones.

Talented winger Harry Wilson fired the Ceredigion side ahead just before the break after good work from midfielder Lewis Jones and front runner Ifan Sion Mason dribbled his way through before he slipped the ball into the empty net to make it 2-0 and pretty much game over.

There was a walkover for Powys club Talgarth Town as their opponents Newcastle Emlyn failed to fulfil the fixture.

In the only game played in division one of the Costcutter League Crannog closed the gap on leaders St Dogmaels to just four points after they accounted for Felinfach by 5-1. Prolific scorer George Colven led the way with an impressive hat trick while Gary Davies and Mike Glover also got on the scoresheet.

It was generally one way traffic for Crannog against a Felinfach outfit who were struggling for a team with veteran manager Anthony Boyes naming himself as sub!

Crannog were also short on numbers once again with only eleven fit players with manager Rhydian Morgan having to dust down his keeping gloves.

George Colven

Mike Glover bagged the opening goal when he steered home a Colven corner to score for the second week in succession and Gary Davies doubled this lead soon after when he latched on to another Colven pin point cross. Colven added the third when he was first to react to a long ball from youngster Gruff Thomas, before Felinfach responded with an excellent goal from Kieron Boyes.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Colven added two more to complete his hat-trick and kill the game off at 5-1. Felinfach hardly looked like scoring after the break with their only chance falling to Kieran Boyes from a free kick, but this was well saved by Crannog keeper Morgan.

There was a double for the Llangrannog club as their Reserves team enjoyed a 9-0 win over Felinfach Reserves.
