Heavy defeat for Crymych on the road but home wins for Fishguard and Aberystwyth
Division 1 west
Aberystwyth 62 Kidwelly 10
Aberystwyth enjoyed a comfortable win over Kidwelly at Plascrug and they will be looking to make further inroads up the division this weekend and well away from the danger zone.
It was the visitors though who made the brightest start and they were the more impressive side in the opening minutes, retaining possession and holding territorial advantage but it was Aberystwyth who put the first points on the board as Steff Rees slotted over a 35 metre penalty. Aber then added to their score when Dan Binks took a quick, tap penalty to cross under the posts. Rees again converted and the hosts were 10-0 ahead.
From the kick-off Aber worked their way downfield, and from a ruck near the Kidwelly line Dan Havard made a break and fed Bryn Shepherd for the hosts second try, brilliantly converted from wide out by Rees. On the stroke of half time Owain Bonsall was yellow-carded and Kidwelly put their first points on the board with a penalty to make the score 17-3 at the break.
Centre Sion Cowdy scored the first of his four-try haul after a neat pass from Gruff Jones at scrum half put him over early in the second half and Rees converted to put them 24-3 ahead. Kidwelly hit back, forcing Aber to retreat to their 22 metre area and winger Squires sped over and Gareth Rees converted to close the gap to 24-10. Cowdy then added his second to clinch the bonus point, and the conversion from Rees made it 31-10 and game over.
Further tries followed through James Plumbridge, Mathew Hughes and two from Cowdy before Ian Ellis capped a fine team performance with the sixth try
Felinfoel 39 Crymych 13
Division high fliers Felinfoel proved to be too good on the day for a Crymych side missing a few regulars but they will be hoping to bounce back with a win this Saturday against Yr Hendy at Parc Lloyd Thomas.
The Preselimen were well adrift at the break with their only scores coming via a couple of penalties from teenage centre Harri Williams and this was followed by a second half try from full back Tomos Phillips.
Felinfoel crossed for a total of seven tries with hooker Joe Poole, winger Josh Edwards, prop Chris Rumbellow, scrum half Dafydd Daniel, replacement full back Elliott Dawe, and flankers Jordan Evans and Stuart Taylor crossing the whitewash. Stand off Jon George and full back Aled Roberts both added conversions.
Division 2 west
Fishguard and Goodwick 34 Tumble 14
Fishguard made one of their best starts for some time as they went ahead after only a few minutes when centre Thomas George scored out wide and a second try followed soon afterwards when experienced player coach Simon James touched down from the base of the scrum.
It was from another set piece that led to the third try as young hooker Liam Wilkes rounded off another forward drive with a try and the bonus point was sealed soon after when number eight James took full advantage of his teams superiority in the scrum to dive over.
Tumble hit back with a try from hooker Rhys Lewis which was converted by centre Steff Price converted and the bottom side reduced the gap with a try from second row Nathan Willard and Price added the extras to make it 22-14.
However the Seagulls rallied and crossed for further tries through fly half Kial Keane and club captain Chris Shousha to seal a well deserved win.
