AERON RUN CONTINUES

Spar mid Wales League

Division 1

Kerry 0 Aberaeron 4

Aberaeron travelled with several key players unavailable but they were still too good for Kerry on the day with none better than striker Mattie Davies who bagged a hat trick.

On a very heavy and bumpy pitch Kerry were first out of the blocks and they started the game well and stretched the visitors, especially down the flanks. Aeron eventually settled into the game and were dominant in midfield and their defence which was well marshalled by Elwyn Edwards managed to nullify any early attacks from the hosts.

The Seagulls started to put together a series of promising moves, playing their way out of defence and getting the ball to front runner Davies and the visitors took the lead when the ball was driven low in to the box to the feet of Davies and he connected well to make it 1-0.

Aberaeron manager Jason Jones made a couple of enforced changes bringing on 16 year old Sam Brameld for his debut and Matthew Clark after recovering from injury. Brameld had an immediate impact with his confident ball carrying and precise distribution and the talented teen looks to have a bright future. He created a couple of opportunities for himself and was very unlucky not to score as from one good move he hit a long range shot that cannoned off the bar but this was gratefully put into the net by Mattie Davies for his hat-trick to secure a 4-0 win.

Manager Jones was quick to praise his team after their all round showing and said ,”This was an excellent team performance on a difficult pitch and against a team that perform well at home.

It was very tough especially on such a heavy pitch but I am delighted with the performance and attitude of the boys.

“We are on a great run and the lads have worked really hard for a couple of months and deserve this run of success.

“We will keep going now and fight to finish as high in this league as possible.”

Jones singled out defender Edwards for an outstanding contribution as well as Dave Evans at full back and Mattie Davies up front.
