FIVE FOR JONAH

Ceredigion Costcutter League.

Division 1

A first half hat trick from Newcastle Emlyn playmaker Huw Jonah Jones paved the way for an easy win for the reds at the expense of Cilgerran Rovers.

This game was switched to the former Saron FC pitch due to the Parc Emlyn strip being too wet but Rovers who have lost a few players since the start of the season struggled on the very narrow surface and were soon behind when Jones netted.

The experienced defender who was pushed up into midfield added a couple more before the break to complete his hat trick and there was only going to be one winner after this with the reds well in control. Talented wideman Jake Kelly helped himself to a brace of goals after the interval as did Dion Phillips and Jones took full advantage of a tiring Rovers team to add two more to his tally to complete a memorable afternoon for him. Former Pencader raider Ashley Summers completed the rout late on before Tommy Furbear grabbed a consolation effort for the Coraclemen to complete the 10-1 scoreline.

Experienced St Dogmaels manager Steve Williams dropped a number of regulars to the bench following an indifferent display away at Llandysul the previous weekend and this paid dividends as his team came through for an impressive win.

John Midgley

The saints played some splendid football despite the gale force wind as did opponents Felinfach and the final score of 4-0 was not a fair reflection of this game with the hosts forced to defend resiliently at times.

The pitch at the School Field was not as wet as had been expected with the gusting wind the biggest problem but saints who made several changes from the team that lost to Llandysul went ahead early on when former Aberporth striker John Midgley was on target. Midgley added a second just before half time but the visitors enjoyed a number of decent chances and former Cardigan Town keeper Carl Woodhouse was forced to make one superb save.

Skipper and central defender Jason Williams who was outstanding throughout made it 3-0 on the hour when he headed home a free kick from former Cilgerran defender Mike Diggle and Midgley completed his hat trick with a similar goal to his first two when he cut inside from the left wing and fired home to make it 4-0.

Jason Williams

Williams emptied his bench and brought on the likes of Adam Williams and Rhys Jones in the search for more goals but Felinfach to their credit pushed hard and were very dangerous on the counter attack but they were just lacking that bit of composure in front of goal.
