DAVIES SINKS CORACLEMEN

Costcutter football round up.

Llandysul and Llanboidy coast through in the cup.

Llandysul coasted through in the Cwpan Dai Dynamo following another excellent performance against a St Dogmaels side who played well but who struggled to create enough decent chances despite the recent arrival of much travelled striker Peter Almond.

The former Newcastle Emlyn front runner who has played for Cardigan Town and St Dogmaels in the past came on in the second half but he was unable to unlock a tight defence

Manager Chris Davies was without a number of regulars including midfielders Ben Thomas and Ian Barrett and was forced to draft in a number of fringe players including striker Chris Harries who stepped up to the plate and scored a fine hat trick.

Hazelby on target

There were few chances in the opening half with Saints arguably the best team but the Swallows eventually went ahead just after the break when Harries was put clean through by outstanding defender Josh Baker and he lifted the ball over greens keeper Aaron Walters. Three more goals followed in quick succession with Harries going on to complete his hat trick. The second of his trio coming via a superb ball through from Scott Mayes and the third following good footwork by Adrian Hazelby which saw Harries get to the ball just a split second before advancing keeper Walters. Hazelby turned from provider to scorer soon afterwards when talented teenager Sion Mason-Evans unselfishly squared the ball for the easiest of tap ins from close range to make it 4-0.

Llandysul manager Chris Coco Davies said afterwards: I would like to make a special mention of our very solid looking back three of Scott Mayes, Dean Jones and Ryan Evans who were comfortable and calm all afternoon as well as Sion Price and Daf Hazelby,on his first start, who both adjusted to their unfamiliar roles of wing back very well.

“I was really pleased with our second half performance in particular and  we are now starting to have our togetherness back from last season so hopefully we will continue this form for as long as possible”.

In form Costcutter division two leaders Llanboidy produced a clinical performance to defeat Maesglas at Maes Radley and romped through to the next round winning by 4-1.The Blues who enjoyed plenty of possession, were unable to turn this pressure into points and goals from Elis Williams ,Rhys Evans,Ross McDonald and an own goal saw Llanboidy safely through.

In the League Cup Felinfach moved into round two at the expense of second division side New Quay. Sam Garside was on target twice for the milkmen and there were goals also for Josh Roper, Lee Forrester and Nathan Spowart

Costcutter Division 1

Cardigan Town midfield general Ben Davies helped secure a hard fought win over local rivals Cilgerran at Parc Y Dre when he fired home a superb free kick to win the game for the Magpies.

There was little to choose between the teams going into the final quarter and either side could have won this game as there were plenty of chances.

Davies who has been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks was the match winning hero when he was on target with a free kick late on to add to his earlier strike after former St Dogmaels front runner Marcus Dean had netted for the Coraclemen.

Aberaeron Res were held to a draw by Dewi Stars at Cae Sgwar where the visitors had the misfortune of putting the ball into their own net to make it 1-1.

The match between Ffostrasol and Lampeter was postponed.

Division 2
Robbie Jenkins

The honours were shared in the local derby between arch rivals Bargod Rangers and Newcastle Emlyn Reserves. Rangers goals from Jay Shae, Robbie Jenkins, Josh Grota and an own goal cancelled out goals from Jake Kelly, Tom Bluett, George Lowry and Ashley Stevens. Emlyn led twice before Rangers equalised but the reds took full advantage when Dan Evans was red carded to retake the lead. Josh Harries was also sent packing to remove the one man advantage and Rangers came back to equalise in the final minutes when Jenkins netted.

Aberporth enjoyed an easy win over Crannog Reserves thanks to a couple of strikes from Joel Tanner. Josh Townsend and Johnny Kinsella were also on target for the airmen and they were also gifted an own goal.

Lampeter Town Reserves and Llandysul Reserves shared a point each following a 1-1 draw.
