Cardigan triathlete Rhys Harries produced a superb late run to come home first in the Sospan Sizzler Middle Distance Triathlon.
The Sospan which is held in the picturesque coastal village of Burry Port just outside Llanelli is made up of a sea swim from the beach of 1.9km, followed by a 93 km bike ride and finished off with a run of 21km.
Rhys pictured below crossing the finishing line and who is employed at Canolfan Hamdden Crymych spoke to Sportsline just after the race
and was understandably delighted with his performance and said:”Yes I am very pleased and had a rare perfect day for me!
“I was 50th coming out of the water and then third by the end of the bike leg but a long way back from leaders at the start of the run.
“However I was simply pleased to be so high up at such a tough race so I stuck to my plan and ran my own race as I knew I could hold a steady run and with two miles to go I spotted the leader and knuckled down to finish hard and overtake him and win.
“This makes all the hard work worth it and has made me super motivated for the rest of the season. I would also like to thank my girlfriend Bryanie, friends and family for whom we couldn’t do this without their support. Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi gyd.
