LLANDYSUL DRAW AT STRADEY PARK

South Wales Cricket Association

Division 1

Llanelli  240-8 (20pts)

Llandysul  131-7 (7pts)

Llandysul were forced to hang on for a losing draw in their division one contest at Stradey Park despite a valiant effort by top scorer Tom Wilson who made a brisk 60.

The visitors made a very positive start and got rid of opener Andrew Richards for a duck when he was clean bowled by Ieaun Paske with only ten on the board but the hosts rallied well and posted a very challenging total of 240-8 off 50 overs.

Opener Marcus Leaf led the way with 75 runs and his innings included 8 fours and 4 sixes and there were some notable contributions from the middle order where Iwan Rees made 47, Dyfrig Roberts 67 which included two huge sixes and Craig Howells who made 24 before he was bowled by Paske.

Iestyn Evans was the pick of the Llandysul bowlers and he took 4-53 off his ten overs which included two maidens, Paske took two for 33 and Carwyn Evans also chipped in with a couple of wickets.

The visitors appeared to be making decent progress until opener Gary Williams was caught behind by Rob Bowen for 10 and further woe was to follow when all rounder Paske went for a ten ball duck with the score at 22-2.

Rhidian Harris steadied the ship and took the score along to 35 before he was sent back to the pavilion after being caught by Iwan Rees and Llandysul looked to be heading for an early shower when Ben Edkins lost his wicket ten runs later. However wicket keeper batsman Tom Wilson got stuck into the Stradey bowlers and carved out a super innings of 60 which included 5 fours and 4 sixes and captain Daryl Griffiths held his team together with a dogged knock of 17 before he was caught leg before but his tail end managed to tough it out for a losing draw with seven wickets down.
