CRANNOG SNEAK THROUGH

Costcutter League round up

Division 1-3

Crannog made some ground on the teams at the top with a hard fought win over Ffostrasol at Parc Troedrhiw to take them up to fourth place in division one.

Having first use of the slope the Wanderers played some decent football early on and were rewarded when midfielder Steffan Evans netted with a smart finish. Crannog hit back with a fortuitous goal when a George Colven cross was steered into the net by a Ffostrasol defender but the hosts came back strongly and played some decent football to feet and would have regained the lead had it not been for a terrific save from young Crannog keeper Tom James and it was all square at the interval.

It was all Crannog in the second half and they put Ffostrasol under constant pressure and a goal finally arrived when smart work from Gary Davies allowed Ifan Mason-Evans to pick his spot for what turned out to be the winner.

Two goals from inform hot shot Rhys Jenkins helped steer Llanboidy to a win over Aberporth by 5-3 to push them up the table into a position of respectability. Also on target for the Cae Dandre side were Ewan Jones, Dafydd Vaughan and Jac Griffiths whilst for the airmen, Mike King, Dan Davies and Matthew Smith were on target.

In division two Maesglas Reserves managed to fire five goals past Aberaeron but they ended up with nothing to show for it. The Blues for whom Barry Jones bagged a brace were far too sloppy in defence and the seagulls came through for a win thanks to goals from Jamie Walker, Lamin Manjang, Harry Holder and Simon Bray. Ex Cardigan midfielder Tom Gardener and Joe Howe were also on target for Maesglas.

The honours were shared between Crannog Reserves and Crymych but the Preselimen were left to rue a penalty miss in the final minute of this tough encounter. A Josh Taylorson goal was cancelled out by Crymych midfielder Sion Vaughan but the visitors who are currently in the runners up spot looked like they were going to sneak a win but a late penalty was missed for the second time this season. If they had made the most of these two opportunities they would now be top of the league in what is their first ever season in the Ceredigion League.

Current league leaders New Quay consolidated their lofty position with a 4-2 success over Ffostrasol Reserves at Cae Arthur. Seasiders front runner Jack Chetwynd bagged two of the goals and there was one apiece for Ifan Davies and Wil Davies. Dan Jardine and Steff Davies were on target for Ffostrasol.

Division 3

Two goals from Gareth Rowbotham helped steer Felinfach to a 3-1 win over Maesglas Reserves with Leon Lane also on target for the Milkmen. The match between Newcastle Emlyn Reserves and Llandysul Reserves was postponed.
