Division 1 west
Crymych 12 Whitland 10
A late penalty by young replacement Hari Williams sealed a hard fought win for Crymych against local rivals Whitland at Parc Lloyd Thomas.
There was very little in this game going into the final quarter but super cool Williams, who replaced centre Carwyn Phillips following an injury stepped up to the mark and duly kicked his team into a lead they were never to relinquish.
Crymych started very positively with some strong running from the likes of number eight Guto Davies, skipper Rhys Davies, second rows Rhys Richards and Mathew Freebury and prop Ryan Rees and they took the lead when veteran outside half Gareth Davies kicked a penalty.
The Borderers replied when fly half Nico Setaro added a penalty and the visitors went ahead when from a driving line out influential No 8 Jack Mason emerged from the bottom of the maul to claim a try and Setaro added the extra points.
Williams and Setaro swapped penalties to close out the half with very little to choose between the teams.
Another penalty from Williams brought Crymych to within a point at 10-9 and both teams enjoyed chances to cross the whitewash and Whitland were presented with a golden opportunity to increase their one point lead mid-way through the second half but the penalty kick from Setaro hit the woodwork.
This narrow miss was to prove very costly late on when teenager Williams stepped up and slotted the ball between the sticks to put his team into the lead at 12-10.
The Borderers who had seen two players yellow carded pushed hard for any sort of score but Crymych held firm and managed to repel the visitors final onslaught and hung on for a narrow win to consolidate their fifth position in the division.
