Division 1
Llanboidy produced one of their best performances for many a day at the King George Field to come away with all three points and this was well deserved as they could have won by more.
The Cae Dandre side, who have struggled this season, knocked the ball about confidently at times against a decent Magpies team who will look back at some missed opportunities especially in the first half.
The visitors though were forced to work very hard in defence late on through Dafydd Vaughan, Steff Williams, Rhodri Lewis and Emyr Lewis as Cardigan launched attack after attack as they pushed hard to reduce the deficit. However, the Magpies were off colour in front of goal and could not make their dominance of possession pay and this was to cost them in the end.
The visitors opened the lead early on in the second half when Ellis Williams netted and they enjoyed two very good chances to kill the game off with one of these hitting the woodwork with town keeper Steff Marsden stranded.
The hosts continued to push through the likes of Ben Davies and James Evans in midfield but they were frustrated by some sterling defensive work and they and their team mates were largely restricted to shots from the edge of the box which never really threatened keeper Bleddyn Williams.
The three points were secured very late on when from another Llan breakaway left winger Tomos Rogers picked up the ball on the half way and with the outside of his left foot and on the half volley let fly with a scorcher of a shot which looped over Marsden and into the net. Rogers who ironically hails from Cardigan will never score a better goal.
Crannog lost their 100% record after they were edged out by reigning league champions Lampeter Town who scored the only game of the match in the opening minute.
The North road men were quick out of the blocks and caught the visitors napping when they turned the ball over in midfield and striker Gethin Hunter was put through and he stroked the ball into the net. Lampeter pushed hard for a second goal and dominated the opening quarter but Crannog gradually worked their way back and went close when Matthew Smith saw his shot well saved by the home keeper.
The visitors created some of the better chances in the second half and enjoyed enough possession but they were unable to convert this pressure into goals with the home defence keeping things very tight. Front runner George Colven enjoyed one excellent opportunity late on but Lampeter managed to hang on for the three points in a game well refereed by Llyr Evans.
Llandysul took the honours in the local derby match against neighbours Newcastle Emlyn but the outcome was in doubt right up until the dying minutes with both teams enjoying chances to win.
It was the Swallows who started the better of the two teams and they had some decent chances early on and the opening quarter provided plenty of end to end football, with both sides getting the ball moving quickly on a slick surface.
It was however the home side who broke the deadlock, following some quick feet by winger Jesse Clayton, who was able to put a pin point through ball in for Gareth Winston, who tucked the ball away at the near post. The home side then had multiple chances to double their lead, with the ball just not quite falling in the final third, and some backs to the wall Emlyn defending.
The reds got back into the game as the half went on with couple of long rang shots from Dion Davies playing his first game this season. Emlyn dominated possession after the break and they looked dangerous and mounted wave after wave of attacks and had good efforts saved by Llandysul keeper Nathan Jones. The Reds though eventually bagged an equaliser when Dion Davies fired home from outside the box. Cory Davies and Kes Pennell then had great chances to win the game but they were off target.
With just a few minutes to play Swallows winger Harri Wilson fired the ball into the box and after a scramble in front of goal Lewis Jones was on hand to steer the ball into the net for the winner.There was further drama in injury time when a visiting defender was dismissed for violent conduct following a clash with 17 year old winger Ifan-Sion Evans.
Bargod Rangers picked up their first points of the season after a Jake Kelly hat trick inspired them to a 4-2 victory over Ffostrasol.
Kelly who returned to Parc Puw after a season at Parc Emlyn where he was the league top scorer was on excellent form and the Wanderers were unable to deal with his attacking prowess and his team were 3-1 up at the break. Ffostrasol hit back with a couple of goals before Josh Grota made the game safe with the fourth goal for Rangers.
The match between St Dogmaels and Aberaeron Reserves was postponed as there was no referee available. Ceredigion football referees have refused to officiate at matches involving St Dogmaels in a continuing row over alleged comments made on Facebook by St Dogmaels first team manager Steve Williams in relation to a game on the final day of last season. Costcutter match officials are due to meet this evening to discuss this further
The fixture between Newcastle Emlyn Reserves and their Saints counterparts was also called off for the same reason.
Division 2
Maesglas fought back from two goals down to take a share of the spoils at Llanddewi Brefi following a tough encounter.
The Stars started brightly as the Blues took time to settle after their long journey north and they took a two goal lead thanks to strikes from Gethin Thomas and Ifan Thomas. This score line should have been increased but Maesglas custodian Graham Keen pulled off a series of saves to deny the hosts and keep his team in the game.
The Blues hit back after the break when Keiran Harman headed home a cross from Harry Billingham and with time running out and after a number of missed opportunities, the Blues were given a life line when Garfield Davies was presented with a chance to level the scores from the penalty spot, which he did with aplomb.
Goals from Mike King and Dan Davies steered Aberporth to a narrow win over Ffostrasol Reserves and Llandysul Reserves took the honours at New Quay by 5-2.
In Division three a brace of goals from Crannog Reserves striker Martin Ferris helped his team secure a 3-0 win over Lampeter Reserves. Jack Davies was also on target for the Llangrannog side. There was a win also for Maesglas Reserves who edged out Llanboidy Reserves by 2-1.
