EMLYN AND LAMPETER ON COURSE

J. Emrys Morgan Cup 4th Round

Newcastle Emlyn stormed into the quarter finals of the J.Emrys Morgan cup after they defeated Crannog by 5-1.

The reds who last won this competition back in 1992 were well worth their win as they dominated for long periods and more importantly they tucked away their chances when they came along.

The hosts started well and Dion Phillips was presented with the first real chance of the half which was well saved. At the other end Crannog went close from a corner and a few minutes later striker George Coleen rounded the keeper on the edge of the penalty box but his shot hit the side netting.

Crannog grew more into the game after the break and they were winning more of the 50/50 challenges but they struggled to threaten the reds goal but they finally made the break through with 20 minutes left when former Cardigan Town player Rhys Davies put them deservedly ahead.

Jake Kelly

Emlyn hit back to level matters when centre back Dan Jones fired home from a free kick and the game then went into extra time and it was the reds who were to score the all important third goal when Adrian Hazelby found himself free in the danger area and he finished with aplomb.

The reds completed the job in the second half of extra time with two goals from Ashley Summers and a tap in from Jake Kelly.

Former winners Lampeter joined their Costcutter League colleagues in the last eight with a 2-0 win over Newtown Wanderers. Town were slow to start on the 3G pitch following a long lay off but they created three excellent chances in the second quarter and they eventually scored when Marc Evans netted with a header from a corner. Substitute Leon Holmes scored with a cracking 20 yard strike from a tight angle to make it 2-0 with just five 15 minutes remaining and Lampeter saw the game out despite a late rally by the hosts.

Two late goals in the 86th and 92nd minutes left battling Dewi Stars totally gutted as they bowed out of a competition they have done really well in recent years. The Stars led for over an hour against unbeaten J.T.Hughes Montgomery amateur league side Forden only to go down agonisingly with virtually the last kick of the game.

http://www.penparcmotors.com/The youthful Llanddewi side ,who contained eight teenagers in their match day 14 gave their all as they matched their more experienced opponents in an entertaining first half. They took the lead on 20 minutes as Carwyn Richards latched on to a Siencyn Jones through ball to hit a powerful drive which Steve Smith in the Forden goal found too hot to handle.

It was mainly backs to the wall for the Stars after the break as the visitors tried to unlock their defence, but resolute defending kept Forden at bay with timely interventions, in particular captain Ryan Hurrell. Stars had chances to seal the tie when they hit their opponents on the counter and Rupert Geddes placed his shot narrowly wide while William Williams also went close. A penalty appeal when Oscar Cayo Evans was tripped in the box was also turned down.

http://www.teifikitchens.co.uk/Just as it appeared that they had done enough to frustrate Forden an 86th minute corner led to three or four attempts for the Stars to clear as the ball bobbled back and forth in the box. Eventually Darryl Jones got the final touch much to the relief of his team mates. In the second minute of added time, relief turned to delight as Michael Henderson-Smith pounced on a loose clearance to drill home the winner to leave the Stars totally devastated and out on their feet after everyone had given so much all afternoon.

A hat trick from Llyr Davies helped steer Tregaron into the latter stages away at Cilgerran. Davies who has been in superb form this season capped a fine display with three goals and there were goals also for club top scorer Carwyn Earey and Gareth Davies.

Felinfach made a superb start away at Builth Wells as they stormed into a 3-0 lead with goals from Joe Jenkins, Eilir Evans and Josh Roper and despite a come back by the home side a late goal from Rhys James sealed a well deserved 4-2 win.

There was also a good win for Ffostrasol who beat Rhayader Town by 3-2.
