At the end of February, a north Pembrokeshire equestrian will have gained enough experience to abseil down one of the highest parts of the coastal path and climb back up the rock face – all in aid of Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital. By Anwen Francis
Emma Keeling, is determined to complete her challenge to raise money for the Ward where her friend Luke Harding is currently being cared for.
Luke, age 30 was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in September 2016. Since then, he has been diagnosed with three brain tumours and legions on his pelvis and spine and as a result of the stereotactic radiosurgery on his brain and the swelling caused by the treatment, he has had two brain seizures.
Emma, who works for Preseli Lettings and Property Management said: “I don’t really have the words to describe the courage and strength that has been shown by my friend Luke. Despite being diagnosed with a brain tumour and lung cancer, he has continued to put others first and raise a massive amount of money for Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital.
“I would like to continue to support Luke on his journey and raise as much money as possible to continue to support the people that work around the clock to provide the care and encouragement people like Luke need to stay strong. This is why I’m going to push myself to my limits, with the help of the guys at Overhang Tenby to do one of the highest abseils possible off the coastal path and attempt to climb back up.”
Emma says she is determined to complete the challenge and to raise as much money as she can.
“I’m looking forward. I have no fears even though I’m not a fan of heights but I’m willing to push myself to my limits! I train in Tenby once a week and started that three weeks ago, but I also had to change my gym routine to improve my upper body strength as the climb back up is really tough!” concluded Emma.
