LATE GOAL SAVES BONT

Cambrian Tyres League

Division 1
Bont moved a point clear of Tregaron Turfs at the top of division one despite being held to a draw by title rivals Bow Street Reserves.

The Magpies arrived at Parc Pantyfedwen with an experienced outfit in contrast to the home side who were missing a number of key players but they started confidently and pinned Street in their own half for most of the opening quarter but were unable to convert the few chances they created. They were eventually punished for this when the ever reliable front runner Dean Evans, found space in the box and converted to put his team ahead.

The half played out with Bont attacking but not creating in the final third, and at the other end Trevor Jenkins brilliantly turned a Nicky Smith free kick round the post and denied a certain 2-0 for the visitors.

The second half started with Bow Street trying their utmost to hold on to their lead and looking to catch Bont on the break and for long periods the away side were pinned in their own half, but chance after chance went begging with some brave defending preventing an equaliser.

However this all changed in the second minute of injury time when Charlie Parr latched on to a corner that was not cleared and he volleyed home from the edge of the box for his first ever goal for Bont to seal a share of the spoils.

 Division 2

Penparcau joined Llanon at the top of division two following a comfortable 6-1 win over Llanilar Reserves, this just a week after putting their senior team out of the league cup.

With several players injured and some away Penparcau had only a bare twelve including joint managers Andy Evans & Darren Thomas but they soon got into their stride and Warren Sedgwick went close in the opening minute.

It was Llanilar though who took the lead on the 20th min when they sneaked in at the far post to scramble the ball home.

This sparked off some improvement in the visitors play and Penparcau pressed hard and levelled matters when youngster Rhys Wynne Davies fired home from a corner for his first senior goal in the Cambrian Tyres League.

This goal turned out to be the game changer and gave Penparcau the confidence to go on and grab a second through the experienced Sedgwick just before half-time.

The second half was dominated by Penparcau and Ben Davies made the most of the monopoly of possession to bag two well taken goals and Sedgwick added another two goals to complete his hat-trick.
