J.Emrys Morgan Cup round up
A winning goal from defender Mathew Goodman earned Newcastle Emlyn a place in the third round of the J.Emrys Morgan Cup.
The reds who are one of the fancied sides to lift the J.Emrys Morgan Cup this season following in the footsteps of Costcutter League rivals Llandysul, were forced to dig deep before they sneaked through against recent winners Cardigan Town.
The Magpies who won this prestigious competition two years ago for the second time started very brightly with Ewan Jones, Tomos Toft and Josh Mellor causing a few problems for Steve Hicks and co in defence and they kept reds keeper Dawid Rutkowski on his toes.
However it was the hosts who took the lead when a long range effort from Emlyn defender Mathew Goodman, from a very contentious free kick, hit the roof of the net with an unfortunate bounce beating Town keeper Steff Marsden. The reds enjoyed several chances after this with Cory Davies and Daniel Davies working well down the flanks and Dion Phillips was unlucky when his well timed shot bounced back off the woodwork.
The Magpies pushed hard for a score after the break and keeper Rutkowski was forced to make a number of timely interventions as Jones and Mellor went close whilst at the other end, new signing from Llandysul Adrian Hazelby whipped in a cross for Jake Kelly who was unmarked but his header hit the post.
St Dogmaels coasted to a 10-0 home win over Felindre and the contest was pretty much all over after half an hour with the Saints 4-0 ahead. The mid-Wales side who had taken almost three and a half hours to arrive at the School Field never got the journey out of their system and it was easy for a Saints team who knocked the ball about very intelligently with none better than teen defender Iwan James.Others to impress were skipper and central defender Jason Williams and midfielder Rhys Jones.
Louis Harding led the way with a well deserved hat trick, Rhys Jones bagged a brace and there were goals also for John Midgley ,Luke Jones, Chris Morgan and substitute Jonny James. The pick of the bunch was a super strike from full back Morgan.
A fine hat trick from Jason Davies helped steer Cambrian Tyres league side Padarn United to a 7-1 victory over mid Wales outfit Carno.
The hosts dominated large parts of the game and played some excellent football in sticky conditions. Davies was the hero of the hour for United but Tegid Owen,Billy Williams, Paul Griffiths and Richard Williams were also on the scoresheet.
Llyr Davies was another hat trick hero as his three goals helped get Tregaron Turfs safely through against Llanfyllin by 4-1. The Turfs who were winners in 2007 were too good on the day for the visitors with Davies causing problems with his pace and he fully deserved his trio of goals. Ifan Jones also got on to the score sheet for the Turfs.
Maesglas were also forced to make a very long journey when they went north to Four Crosses and like Felindre they were on the end of a hammering with the home team hitting double figures with eleven goals. Jamie Evans netted four of these whilst there was a hat trick for Gareth Jones, two for Harry Davies and singles for Shi Miah and Ben Simms. Barry Jones was on target for the blues.
It took extra time to separate Crannog and Aberporth with the home side eventually coming through for the win. Crannog who were beaten finalists two years ago, looked to be on their way out with just a few minutes to go of normal time as they were a goal behind. However Chris Welch gave his team a life line with an equaliser to make it 2-2 and send the game into extra time.
Crannog could have been two or three up early on in the game as they hit the woodwork on two occasions and the ball was eventually cleared off the line by Liam Griffiths and Jedd Townsend. The hosts took the lead with a goal that took a deflection off an Aberporth defender but the airmen hit back with goals from Reece Prowse and Jonny Kinsella with Prowse beating keeper Arwel Morgan with a delicate chip. The visitors looked a decent bet for a win with just a minute remaining but a free kick floated into the box by Welch eluded everyone and sneaked into the net.
The visitors who were forced to play with a man down in extra time with Prowse having to go off injured soon tired and Crannog made the most of the advantage and wrapped up the result with goals from Robbie Evans and George Colven.
Dewi Stars made the long trek to Llanboidy pay dividends with a well earned 3-0 success. The Stars were quickly out of the blocks and victory was sealed in the first 20 minutes as they struck three times without reply.
Siencyn Jones set up Arwel Jones for the opening goal after five minutes and the latter hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later the same combination doubled the lead as Arwel Jones got his second with an excellent near post header from a corner. It was three nil on twenty minutes, when Daniel Owen and Gethin Williams combined to set up William Williams who hit another fine drive from twenty yards into the roof of the net.
Llanboidy eventually settled and stretched the Stars defence on more than one occasion and they could and should have cut the deficit but the Llanddewi rear guard held firm.
A hat trick from talented teen Scott Davies helped steer Costcutter League leaders Lampeter through against a full of fight New Quay team. Davies was one of a number of young players whom impressed along with Leon Holmes,Tom Willoughby and Szymon Konwiak. Midfielder Marc Evans was also in good form and he bagged a couple of goals and there were goals also for Robert Slawkowski and Willoughby. Outstanding in midfield for Lampeter were Evans and Christy Gale.
New Quay who hit back with a superb strike from Charles Harvey and a fine solo effort from Cameron Jeff could only muster ten men for the kick off and were three goals down within five minutes. However when they were fully restored to eleven men they were far better and made the visitors work hard for their goals.
Goals from Rhys Davies, Joe Jenkins, Owain Dafydd and Rhys Jon helped get Felinfach into the next round at the expense of Llandrindod Wells by 4-2
The match between Bargod Rangers and Hay St Marys was called off as Hay St Marys were unable to raise a side whilst Ffostrasol edged out Aberaeron by 4-2.
