Wins for Aberaeron and Bow Street but Borth miss out.

Two goals from Aberaeron striker Mattie Davies helped secure a safe passage into round two of the League Cup at the expense of the students.
Davies was put through with his first after some neat build up play in midfield before adding with another confident finish. Elwyn Edwards made it 3-0 late on with a header.
This was just the tonic for the seagulls following the heavy defeat against Llanelli but the seasiders face some tough games over the next month and manager Jason Jones will be hoping to have some of his injured players back in the squad. This weekend they face Kerry.
Borth United 1 Tywyn/Bryncrug 4
Borth were unsurprisingly knocked out of the cup as their poor run of results continued but they were very unlucky and could have got something out of this game on another day.
The Crows who were forced to move their fixture from Uppingham Fields to Aberystwyth’s Town 3G pitch played well early on as both teams created some good half chances and Borth striker Ryan Edwards was unlucky to see his rasping shot hit the upright and rebound to safety. At the other end the visitors made the most of their luck by taking the lead as Aled Jones scored with a low shot passed Alex Pennock.
Borth to their credit responded immediately as a through ball from midfield fell to Ryan Davies who slid the ball passed the keeper to level the scores but the visitors quickly regained the lead with Mike Rees scoring with a cool finish and though chances came and went for both teams the visitors held their slight advantage up to half time.
The Crows resumed the second half with renewed vigour and Ryan Davies came close with a snap shot which just fizzed passed the post and this was soon followed by a Sam Middleton shot saved by the keeper.As the match reached its conclusion Borth attacked in numbers in the hope of an equalizer but were also wary of a counter attack and in the final minutes Mark Edmonson and Ben Richards both scored to put the tie to bed and send Tywyn/Bryncrug into the second round.
Speaking after the match Borth manager Ian Lewis said:” I couldn’t have asked more from the players they gave me 100% this afternoon, but I was astounded that their goalkeeper wasn’t penalised in the first half as he appeared to handle the ball well outside his area, but overall I am hopeful that the team’s luck will change as the season progresses”.
Borth resume league action this Saturday away at League leader’s Welshpool Town.
Penybont 3 Bow Street 5
Bow Street progressed to the next round of the League Cup after defeating second division Penybont United. The Magpies struggled to breakdown their opponents in the early exchanges as they had set up to defend deep and hit Street on the counter and it almost worked.
The visitors struggled with their passing game but still pushed on to get that opening goal but they were hit by a counter attack as the hosts went ahead from a breakaway.
This seemed to wake Bow Street up and a superb Mark Gornall free kick bought them level and they went on to hit the woodwork twice more before Penybont struck again as they hit Street on the counter attack once more to make it 2-1. Just as half time loomed Andrew Gittins poked the ball home from close range to bring the scores level at the interval at 2-2.
Magpies manager Baz Williams had a few choice words at half time and altered his formation slightly and his team were much better in the second half as a brace from Ben Jones and another from Andrew Gittins sealed the victory.
Penybont had the final say though with a late consolation goal.
