Division 1

The winning run of Tregaron Turfs came to an end after they were edged out by Bow Street Reserves by 2-1 although the Turfs who were reduced to ten men, did enough to claim a share of the spoils.

The hosts started the game brightly and were quick to close down any attempts from Bow Street to start their passing game and played the better football on a bobbly pitch.

Street did get the ball in the back of the net midway through the half when Joe Williams pounced on a spill from the Tregaron keeper, but he was judged to have been offside when the initial shot came in.

However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after half an hour when Joe Williams chased a hopeful high ball, which caused a mix up in the defence, which Nick Smith was able to capitalise on by volleying home into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Tregaron created a few half chances towards the end of the half but the Magpies held on until half-time.

The start of the second half pretty much followed the pattern of the first half with Tregaron playing the better football and limiting the Magpies to half chances and hopeful balls up-field. On the hour mark the Bow Street management changed the front pairing of Joe Williams and Dean Evans and bought on Justin Quinn and Shaun Jones. This double change paid off ten minutes later when Quinn converted after a poor clearance from the Tregaron keeper.

The home team were reduced to ten men with about 20 minutes to play and as often happens this seemed to spur Tregaron on and they were offered a way back into the game when the Carwyn Earey was up-ended by keeper Rhys Evans. Earey dusted himself off to convert the penalty and Tregaron threw everything at Street in the last ten minutes with a succession of corners and free-kicks but the visitors managed to hold on for the three points.

Street manager Leighton Reynolds said that he was very pleased with the result and added: “We were looking to bounce back after the weekend and coming to Tregaron, after the start they’ve had, was always going to be a tough ask. Tregaron played very well and put us under pressure but the lads rallied through and we did well to get the three points. It’s always a difficult place to come and they’ll cause problems to any team that visits here.”

http://www.penparcmotors.com/The whistle sounded for the very last time at Cae’r Odyn Galch as Talybont played their final match on home turf but at least they finished on a high note.

Their hard-earned 1-0 success over Padarn United provided a fitting end to a seven year spell on their pitch, which is no longer unavailable, with a superb goal from Chris Jones (main pic above) sealing the three points.

Talybont will play their remaining home fixtures at Blaendolau Fields, Aberystwyth, but are hopeful they can find a suitable pitch closer to home for the 2018-19 season.

Reigning champions Bont made it three wins from three when they accounted for Borth Reserves by 7-0. Andrew Carree was the hat trick hero for the visitors and there were two goals each for Dion Davies and David Beck.

Penrhyncoch Reserves registered their first points of the season with goals from Paul Keegan, Steffan Davies and Dave Jones following a 3-2 win over Machynlleth Reserves. Machynlleth replied through Mike Price and Connor Griffiths.

In division two, Padarn United Reserves came back from the dead to secure a 4-4 draw against a Penparcau side that were 4-0 up thanks to goals from Dylan Bailey, Jason Rees, Steff Faulkes and Lee Morgan. However their opponents refused to throw the towel in and they fought back to 4-4 with goals from Graham Thomas from the penalty spot, two from James Graham and a second from the spot by Thomas to complete the fight back.
