Division one.
The honours were shared in the top of the table clash between Newcastle Emlyn and Lampeter but the reds must be still wondering why they didn’t kill the game off in the opening half such was their dominance.
The hosts created chance after chance but they wasted them and this was to cost them dearly as later on in the half Lampeter made a rare incursion into the reds penalty box and scored a super goal when Jason Jones netted.
Former Pencader favourite Daniel Jones hit back to equalise just after the break and Jake Kelly who was guilty of missing a couple of golden opportunities made up for this when he scored from the spot to put his team ahead midway through the second half.
Lampeter pushed players forward to get something from the game and they managed to bag a second goal with about five minutes remaining when the ball was bundled in from close range by
Gareth Williams. Newcastle Emlyn will look back at this game as a missed opportunity especially as Llandysul were beaten but Lampeter will be pleased with this away point at Parc Emlyn and the north road side remain unbeaten.
Felinfach produced the shock result of the day when they defeated Llandysul by 4-2, this the second defeat in just a few weeks for the reigning champions who went through all last term undefeated.
The milkmen came into the game with several regulars missing but they were still better than the Swallows on the day and it is becoming most apparent that Llandysul are struggling without recently retired striker Simon Davies and are not firing on all cylinders in midfield.
Manager Chris Davies was not a happy man and said:”I was disappointed with my players attitude during the game but fair play to Felinfach as they fully deserved their win.
Hopefully we can regroup and get a winning run going.”
The deadlock in this tense affair was broken on the half hour when Joe Jenkins cut inside from the right wing and released Rhys Davies who coolly checked the opposing defender and bent a curling effort passed the Llandysul keeper. With their tails up, the Milkmen forced a second when Lee Forrester picked up the ball after a deep corner was swung in and he drove a vicious strike through the legs of the keeper from an acute angle. It could well have been three before half-time as the ever alert Joe Jenkins hit the post following another promising opportunity but the hosts were well worth their 2-0 lead at the break.
Felinfach kept up their impressive work rate in the second half and created another opening when Jenkins flicked on to front runner, Owain Dafydd who rounded the keeper to score to make it 3-0.
The Swallows then threw men forward in an attempt to salvage something from the game and they scored within a few minutes when Adrian Hazelby netted. A straight red card was shown to Llandysul midfielder Ben Thomas for use of the elbow but his team rallied and they pulled a second goal back when Dean Jones fired home from close range following a goal mouth scramble.
The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser but a late penalty tucked away by Eilir Evans sealed a well deserved 4-1 win.
Dewi Stars were left kicking themselves after letting a three goal lead slip against a Cardigan Town side who fought back to claim a share of the spoils.
The Stars appeared to have secured their first win of the season as with 20 minutes left they were coasting, but a controversial penalty decision turned the game on its head and let the visitors back in.
The Stars dominated the first half hour but could not put their chances away and it took that long for Cardigan to have their first shot at goal which came from a spot kick that was brilliantly saved by Rhodri Edwards who dived full length to stop a shot from Liam James.
Within a minute it was one nil to the Stars as a long ball down the flank straight from the save was crossed by Steffan Owens for Ifan Thomas to open the scoring.
The Stars doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Thomas released Daniel Owen and he drilled home a fine low drive.
The second half followed the same pattern as the home team dominated and when Siencyn Jones found Thomas free on the edge of the box the striker hit a low drive into the bottom corner giving keeper Steff Marston no chance. Cardigan were indebted to the young custodian all afternoon as he made several vital saves and handled competently throughout.
Then the game was turned on its head with the Stars three up and looking likely to score a few more. Cardigan broke from deep and the ball reached a Town forward who appeared to be offside, and he was bundled over in the box and to their home supporters surprise a penalty was awarded.
This time Josh Mellor stepped up and made no mistake and five minutes later it was 3-2 as Mellor again found space in the box to set up a grand finale.
With just a few minutes left the Magpies equalised to gain an unlikely point when a long ball over the top caught the Stars defence sleeping and James made amends for his earlier penalty miss to make it all square.
However, the Stars could have won it in the dying minutes when a rasping 30 yard low shot by skipper Gethin Thomas was brilliantly turned round the corner by Marston and from the resulting corner Deian Williams headed just wide to end an exciting match.
St Dogmaels produced an excellent all round display to beat Crannog at the School Field to keep tabs on the leaders in division one. It was the visitors who opened the scoring with their only shot of the half before John Midgley grabbed an equaliser. Mindugas Simkevicius fired Saints ahead after the break and further goals from Justin Smith from a corner, Rhys Jones and a wonder strike by man of the match Dan Jones sealed the win before the visitors grabbed a late consolation goal.
Cilgerran enjoyed a comfortable win over Ffostrasol at Parc Y Dre after producing their best performance of the season. Striker Marcus Dean put the hosts ahead when he headed home a Mike Diggle free kick and Dean then turned provider as his cross was headed in by Oli Evans. Diggle made it 3-0 soon afterwards when he ran through for one on one with the keeper to kill the game.
Ffostrasol who have yet to register a point this season came back strongly after the break and scored a consolation effort but a goal from substitute Tommy Furbear completed the scoring at 4-1.
Division 2
Bargod Rangers kept up their winning run with a convincing 4-0 win over an under strength Crannog Reserves outfit. The Llangrannog men could only muster ten players at the kick off and ended the game with just seven bodies but they showed tremendous commitment throughout.
Facing a howling wind and on a sticky and bumpy surface Bargod huffed and puffed up to the half time whistle with the scores deadlocked at 0-0.The second half though started differently with the wind forcing Rangers to keep the ball on the deck and after ten minutes Dan Evans put the visitors ahead with a powerful shot from 25 yards before the hosts lost their keeper through injury after colliding with an upright.
With Crannog now down to nine players it was only a matter of time before more goals would follow and Bargod duly obliged when Lyndon Robinson added a second and then inevitably as another Crannog player left the field sharpshooter Robbie Jenkins, easing himself back after injury added another two to wrap up the three points.
A difficult game in testing conditions but full credit to Crannog who defended stoically from start to finish.
Goals from Dafydd Makepeace and Frazer Wyatt earned Llanboidy a draw away at Aberporth, whilst New Quay took a share of the spoils away at Llandysul Reserves where George Tilstone with a brace and Cameron Jeff were on target.
Maesglas were also convincing winners as they beat Lampeter Reserves by 4-1.
In the Reserves Cup Llanboidy edged out Maesglas Reserves with goals from Declan Harries, Lukasz Bukowski and Chris Thomas with Ryan Davies netting for the Blues.
Ffostrasol Res topped the goal scoring charts for the afternoon as they fired 18 past their opponents Felinfach who were severely weakened after they lost a number of players to their first team.
