BOW STREET DOUBLE UP

Spar mid Wales League

Division 1.

Bow Street followed up their excellent Welsh Cup win over Knighton the previous weekend with an

ultimately comfortable 3-1 victory over the same opponents at Cae Piod in a league encounter.

Mathew Evans opened the scoring after ten minutes, but Knighton reacted strongly and caused

problems for the home defence during the rest of the opening half.

However, after the break the home side became more dominant and within ten minutes they doubled the score when the Knighton goalkeeper allowed a Llion Jenkins shot under his body and into the net. Bow Street had further chances to increase the lead and Mathew Penberthy was especially unlucky when his bullet header rebounded off the crossbar. But with five minutes to go, a mix up in the home defence allowed Knighton to pull a goal back.

However just a minute later, an intelligent run and pass from Steff Richards enabled an excellent finish from Dean Evans.

Manager Barry Williams said:” We are very pleased to have come through these back to back

games against Knighton with two wins.

“They offered a very physical challenge to us but it was all about the three points and we are all delighted with the result.”

This Saturday, Bow Street welcome Churchstoke to Cae Piod in the first round of the Welsh FA

Trophy. In the first round proper of the Welsh Cup, they have been drawn to play Airbus away.

 Llanrhaeadr 6 Borth United 0

Despite it being a bright sunny afternoon at the Recreation Field in Llanrhaeadr the sun certainly did not shine down on Borth United as they faced an inform home team who had nothing but attack on their minds from the start.

Marc Griffiths grabbed the first goal with a cool finish past keeper Jamie Evans after just five minutes play and Khyam Wytton doubled their lead on the half hour with a rasping shot into the top corner

Five minutes later things got a great deal worse when Borth keeper Jamie Evans brought down a home attacker that was harshly deemed to be inside the penalty area and which resulted in a red card for the keeper.

Daniel Graham duly scored from the spot passed Jac Wyn Williams who took over in goal and as the hosts pressed forward Khyam Wytton netted his second goal and another followed soon after when Borth scored an own goal to give Llanrhaeadr a 5-0 interval lead.

With a mountain to climb after the break Borth to their credit made a great effort to reduce the deficit but on the whole never really tested the home keeper and just to make matters worse the visitors were, for a short time, reduced to nine men after Daniel Hopton suffered a bad nose injury and had to be replaced.

Llanrhaeadr completed the scoring midway through the second half when Marc Griffiths bagged his second goal with a class finish and the hosts who were guilty of squandering some decent half chances as the match reached its conclusion should have scored several more.

Borth have a rearranged league game against last season’s Spar League Div 2 Champions Kerry away this Saturday.

Machynlleth were also on the end of a heavy defeat after they were thumped by five goals against Llandrindod Wells with goals from Shane Pritchard who hot grabbed two, Gareth Jones,Ryan Simms and an own goal.

There was no joy for Aberaeron either as they went down against Llanidloes by a solitary goal.
