THIRD WIN FOR MAGPIES

Spar mid Wales League

Division 1.

Bow Street 2 Aberaeron 0

Bow Street completed their third win of the season to inflict further misery on Aberaeron who have yet to register a point this term.

A large crowd attended this local derby at Cae Piod and which didn’t start well for the hosts as they lost their centre forward Andrew Gittins after twenty minutes through injury but following the reshuffle which resulted in Tom Wyn Roberts coming on to stiffen the defence, Steff Richards followed his two goals on Saturday by putting the home side ahead.

Bow Street dominated the remainder of the half and created several decent chances but they were unable to add to their lead.

This domination continued in the second period, and within 15 minutes Tomos Evans produced

an excellent finish to double the lead. Promising youngster Evans who had to fill Gittins lone striker role, deserved his goal in an excellent overall performance and he and his side came close to increasing their lead on numerous occasions and whilst Aberaeron produced a spirited fightback in the last five minutes, the game ended as a comfortable and deserved win for the Magpies.

Manager Barry Williams said ‘We were delighted with the performance and I would like to compliments all the players as we had to make an early change following Andrew’s injury, but everybody adjusted and adapted to the changed circumstances excellently.

“It is a busy period, and we have a challenging few days with the visit of Carno on Saturday, and we travel to play Llanidloes under the lights next Tuesday.”

Borth United 0 Machynlleth 1

A defensive mix up in the dying minutes proved costly for the Crows as they were edged out by a single goal against a plucky Machynlleth outfit.

Borth welcomed their near neighbours to a sunny evening at Uppingham Fields and with the visitors having an indifferent start to their season and the hosts hoping to build on their brilliant last league outing against Bow Street the prospects looked good for an entertaining match.

Machynlleth started well and on the balance of play should have taken the lead on numerous occasion during the opening half but generally their finishing was disappointing and the remainder of the half was a rather drab affair with chances being spurned by both teams so unsurprisinly the score stood at 0-0 at half time.

On the whole the second half improved only slightly but at least Borth created two good chances with a Lee Jones free kick into the penalty area met by Lee Crumpler and his header only just missed the post and later in the half a lob from Crumpler was palmed on to the crossbar by Mach keeper Sean Gates and to safety.

The honours looked as if they were going to be shared but with one final attack Machynlleth took full advantage of a mix up in the home defence which allowed Callum Page to score with a low shot past keeper Jamie Evans for the winning goal.

Borth will now have to lift themselves for another tough league match away at Llanidloes Town this coming Saturday.
