LLANDYSUL SKITTLED OUT

South Wales Cricket Association

Division 1
Bronwydd 89 all out beat Llandysul 84 all out.

A huge batting collapse by Llandysul at local rivals Bronwydd has put a major dent in their hopes of staying up this season.

Skipper Andrew Edwards and his relegation threatened side appeared to be coasting to what would have been an extremely handy victory with the team score on 75-2 and Llandysul only chasing 90 to beat the division high fliers. However disaster struck with a succession of quick wickets and several ducks to boot and the visitors were bowled out for 84 with eight wickets tumbling for an addition of just nine runs.

Meirion Davies was the chief tormentor as he produced an inspired spell of bowling that earned him five wickets for just six runs in his short stint of half a dozen overs.

Llandysul won the toss and elected to field and this looked a good decision as wickets were knocked over early on in the dark and damp conditions with the ball moving in the air and Bronwydd were in deep trouble at 36-4 with Colin Tucker and Ian Marsh and Mike Turner inflicting most of the damage with a wicket apiece.

Oliver Furneaux with 15 and all rounder Davies with 10 runs dug in but they soon ran out of batting partners and the hosts were eventually all out for 89 with opener James Cale top scoring with 22.

Turner returned the best figures with the ball for the visitors and he posted 5-24 off his eight over spell whilst Tucker pick up two wickets for the loss of only 24 runs.

In reply the Parc Tir Y Dref outfit lost an early wicket when Ieuan Paske was caught by Furneaux off the bowling of Tom Gleeson but Gary Williams and Ben Edkins steadied the ship and they took the score along to 75 before Williams was out caught by Pauluge Gihan Secstus Fernando off the bowling of Gleeson.

With just 15 runs required for victory and plenty of wickets in hand there was no need to panic but unfortunately it all fell apart at the seams as Davies ripped through the middle order to claim a fifer and end the contest with Llandysul all out for 84. Gleeson was also impressive and he picked up the other four wickets for just 20 runs.

Llandysul who are currently second from bottom are 26 points adrift of Merthyr Tydfil the team above them and it now looks a very tall order for them if they are to avoid the drop.

In division six west Llandysul 2nds cruised to a nine wicket victory over Pontardawe 2nds in a rain affected match that was reduced to 40 overs. The visitors struggled for runs from the outset with only two players hitting double figures and they were skittled out for just 61. The hosts quickly reached the total required with opener Gareth Chapple carrying his bat for a match winning innings of 54 and he also picked up three wickets. Another bowler to impress was Joe Swift who claimed four wickets for eight runs and Dafydd Hatley who took three wickets.
