LLECHRYD CLIMBING HIGH

Pembroke County Cricket League

Division 2

Carew 2nds 66 all out lost to Llechryd 153 for 8 by 87 runs

Llechryd closed in on the teams above them with a comfortable win over Carew 2nds and the Teifisiders could close the gap further on Burton and second place Narberth next month when they meet their fellow promotion chasers.

Leighton O’ Connor

The visitors got off to a shaky start and lost wickets early with prolific run maker John Curran getting out cheaply when he was caught by a brilliant catch in the slips for only ten runs but all rounders Leighton O Connor and Graham Keen were in superb form with O Connor hitting 46 not out and Keen making a very useful 37 as the Llechryd innings closed on 153-8.

Joel Read with 2-21 and James Hinchcliffe with 2-54 were the pick of the hosts bowling line up.

Veteran left armer Peter Betterley led the Llechryd attack superbly and kept a tight reign and continued in his rich vein of form and returned figures of 2-33.

Peter Betterley

However there were none better than Graham Keen, the Maesglas FC goal keeper who tore Carew apart with a blistering spell which delivered him impressive figures of 6-16 and had it not been for the efforts of Carew batter Dai Rees who made 29, the match would have been over very early. The Carew dangerman Rob Hicks who is more than capable of dismantling a bowling attack on his own fell to a fantastic catch by Betterley fielding at square leg.

Another to impress in the field was Curran who took two very smart catches in the slips and caught another of his own bowling.

The hosts were eventually all out for 66 with Rees the only player to hit double figures.

Division 4

Llechryd 2nds 172 for 8 lost to Crymych 174 for 5

Crymych came away from the RDM Oval with the local bragging rights still intact following a comfortable win over neighbours Llechryd 2nds.

Andrew Fletcher

The hosts started brightly and they were well served once again by opener Andrew Fletcher who crafted a splendid innings of 73. Fletcher who for many years played for the now defunct Cardigan team and who is a regular front rower with Crymych RFC was the cornerstone of the side and he played very patiently. Teenage all rounder Joe Mansfield highlighted his growing potential once again with a fine knock of 23 and the Llechryd innings ended on 172-8 but well short of the total they would have hoped for against a talented batting line up.

Daf Wright was the pick of the visiting attack and he took 3-30 and there were three wickets also for opening bowler Ioan Davies.

Sam Kurtz cuts
another four

Crymych went at their local rivals from the off and Sam Kurtz, who has been in decent form in recent weeks made a fine half century and prolific run getter Richard Throne waded in with a brisk 38 not out to see off the target with ten overs to spare.

Mark Newell with 2-33 and all rounder Fletcher with 2-38 were the chief wicket takers for the home side.
