Ceredigion Netball League

Cardigan Diamonds 32 Cardigan Pearls 29

Cardigan Diamonds experienced the strongest threat to their title defence in the Ceredigion netball league when playing against sister team, Cardigan Pearls. The mixture of experience and youth in the Cardigan Pearls side gave the experienced Diamonds side a good run for their money with a draw of 8-8 after the first quarter and the Pearls finding themselves ahead, by 19-15 at half time. Strong defence around the circle by Catrin Reed, Willow Balmer, Pearls player of the match and Steff Davies kept shooting opportunities to a minimum for Diamond shooters Chloe Miles and Bev Sime.

Solid shooting once again by young Pearls shooter Chloe Bowen combined with accurate circle feeds by Elin Rees, ensured attacking phase of play was converted into goals, the three goal gap remaining at the end of the third quarter, 27-24 to the Pearls. During the final quarter, the Diamonds showed their experience, remaining calm under pressure and gained enough possession to edge ahead.

Defenders Catrin Davies who was the Diamonds player of the match), Delun Evans and Vicky Reed worked tirelessly in gaining possession in the Pearls attacking half, transferring to Tam Balmer in centre court and working the ball down to the their attacking goal third.

Final score of 32-29 and the Diamonds hold tight having thus far, not lost a game this season.

Aberystwyth University 10 Cardigan Aces 66

The well drilled Aces proved much too strong for the Aberystwyth side, eventually winning the game with a 56 goal advantage.

During the first half, Cardigan Aces centre passes flowed smoothly to wing Ruth Mansfield and Dionne Thomas, connecting play down court with experienced centre Lucy Allison ensuring plenty of goal scoring opportunities for shooter, Sarah Jones.

With a half time score of 32-7, Cardigan’s defensive unit of Hayley Morris, Steff Davies and Mari Jones decreased Aber’s goal scoring options even further, combined with effective defensive blocks and interceptions by centre Lucy allowing their opposition only three goals in total in the second half of the game. Obvious nominated player for the game was hard working centre, Lucy Allison and Jemima Brimascombe for Aberystwyth University.
