FAW Under 16’s Welsh Cup Semi Final.
Newcastle Emlyn 3 Corwen 0
Newcastle Emlyn produced their best performance of the season to reach the final of the FAW under 16’s Girls Cup after they defeated Corwen at Newtown.
The Ceredigion side were just too good for their North Wales opponents especially in the second half when they scored three goals without reply to book their place in the final against the winners of the second semi-final between east Wales based teams Barry Town United and Rhydyfelin.
Newcastle Emlyn took time to settle on the 3G pitch and it was a very tense first half with both teams trying to find their feet and chances were few and far between with nerves seeming to get the better of the girls leading up to the interval.
It was a completely different story after the break with both teams playing in a more expansive manner and after seven minutes the Emlyn Ladies took the lead when left wing Chloe Fletcher capitalised on a goalkeeping error to stroke the ball home from ten yards out.
It was a very open game after this and with just five minutes remaining the Reds deservedly doubled their advantage with a stunning strike from twenty yards out from talented striker Cara Currado.
The game was all over two minutes later following some lovely inter passing between strikers Currado and Elysha Jones, culminating in Jones slotting home to make the score 3-0.
It was an excellent team performance which was evident in the fact that Corwen’s only strike on target came in injury time at the end of the game which brought an excellent reflex save from keeper Saran Jones.
