DREIGIAU GO THREE UP

Newcastle Emlyn Dreigiau 27 Crymych 2nds 5

These two local rivals played each other for the fourth time this season and with the aggregate score 2-1 in favour of Emlyn there was plenty of local pride to play for.

The opening half didn’t quite live up to some of the more entertaining matches between the teams earlier in the season and a scrappy first half offered only a few moments of action. Veteran centre Emyr Jones combined with flying fullback Llyr Freeman to set Emlyn wing Ifan Davies up to score the first try of the game. Crymych soon levelled the scores at 5-5 with a clever move down the blindside with number eight Cenydd James claiming the touchdown after good work from Dan Griffiths and Arwel Rhys Davies.

The hosts hit back just before halftime following some excellent play by the Emlyn pack which saw them turn over a scrum and number 8 Aled Jones powered his way over the try line.

The second half saw the Dreigiau side move up a gear and they started to play some enterprising running rugby and following some great offloading Aled Davies crashed over for a try, before a brilliant pass from outside half Llew Morgan put player coach Curtis Bradford in for his first try, which was converted by Freeman.

A few minutes later Bradford added a second try, the centre taking on and beating his opposite number with a hand off to make the final score 27-5.

Next up for the Dreigiau is a game against Aberaeron on Thursday night at Ddol Wiber.

Thanks to Brandon Bradford for the match info.
