Cardigan came through as expected to complete a double over a very poor St Davids team whose very existence at this level must be in doubt as they are getting hammered week in week out.
The saints have to be saluted for their conviction and their resilience but it is a tough call to put players through this on a regular basis and this small club desperately needs some new faces to help them out.
The Cardi’s who were missing a few key players themselves, almost hit the century mark but this was not and ideal preparation for their National Bowls clash with Denbigh this weekend and this one sided affair will have done them little good apart from inflating their try count.
The visitors were well ahead by the break and led by forty points and with the hosts players dropping like flies through injury it would have been kinder to have wrapped matters up on the hour. However this is not possible these days and Cardigan continued to batter away at the home line and run in tries from all parts of the ground for fun.
Full back Rhydian Jenkins claimed a hat trick as did centre Emyr Harries and skipper and number eight Llyr Griffiths and there were two tries for centre Marcus Castle. Others to cash in were prop Tomos Evans, hooker Aled Phillips, scrum half Llyr Jones and young replacement Owain Rees.
Experienced outside half Iestyn Crompton slotted over ten conversions to add to the Saints misery.
This weekend Cardigan entertain Denbigh in the fifth round of the WRU National Bowl and a very good chance for them to get into the last eight of this competition.
