Dreigiau Emlyn 5 Llandybie 20
In extremely poor conditions Dreigiau Emlyn welcomed high fliers Llandybie to Ddol Wiber for another round of the Division C pilot scheme.
Llandybie who currently head the league table and who are intent on gaining promotion proved to be tough opponents but the visitors had plenty of motivation to try and win following a 3-3 draw at Llandybie, in equally bad conditions earlier in the year.
The visitors arrived with a bare fifteen but still managed to put out a decent side and they took an early lead when Chris Powell slotted over a penalty. Llandybie kept Emlyn pegged in their own half for long periods with their pack outstanding and this was a step up in class for the hosts with their clinical edge being the decisive factor as they scored four tries from virtually four visits to the Emlyn twenty-two metre zone.
Fifteen minutes in, a powerful drive from the visiting pack gave their backs some room and with winger Ben Featherstone dragging the cover wide, he gave centre Aled Tommason an opportunity to dummy inside to score a try which Powell converted.
Another passage of excellent play by Llandybie saw them recycle the ball wide and with flanker Shon Davies again pulling the cover out to the wing, Ben Featherstone had the strength to cut inside to score and make the half time score 15-0.
The second half saw Emlyn Dreigiau start with a head of stream and they produced one moment of magic with a try that would not have looked out of place in Fiji let along rain drenched West Wales.
Full back Llyr Freeman fielded a kick, with wing Curtis Bradford moving in field for the pass, Bradford moved it quickly on to replacement Matthew Rollins and he made a terrific break before linking up with the supporting fly half Crwys Rees who passed to Llew Morgan to slide in for a truly special try.
Llandybie captain Rhydian Jones rallied his troops and again kept the visitors going forward with some fine carries. Flanker Dan Brooks, normally a hooker made a lot of good tackles and centre Johnny Harris returning after three injury plagued seasons, swerved outside the cover to find three forwards on his shoulder in Shon Davies who slipped the ball to back rower Rhydian Jones for hooker Cann to then sprint fifteen yards to slide home to score
There were plenty of positives for the hosts however, with powerful no.8 Alex Jones carrying terrifically well in the mud and scrum half Dafydd James controlling the game well from the base of the scrums.
