CROFT TOO HOT FOR THE SCOTS

Talented Cardigan Amateur Boxing Club star Ioan Croft produced another impressive display to record a well-deserved win at the Scotland v Wales international held at Sophia Gardens, last weekend.

Up against John Riley of Lochend ABC near Dundee, teen Croft Ioan was very clinical in his approach, using the ring well and getting in and out and landing some nice clean shots whilst taking virtually nothing in return.

Riley who was a strong opponent kept coming forward but with limited success and the Cardigan fighter won a comfortable unanimous decision.

Twin brother Garan Croft boxed Nicholas Devlin of O’Neils ABC,Glasgow and both boxers were well matched with some nice long range clean boxing as dad Guy explains:

” The first round was pretty even but in the second Garan eased off a bit and went on his backfoot for no real reason, giving Nicholas the edge after two rounds.

“Garan though rallied in the third and probably won the round but unfortunately it was not enough to win the fight and he lost by a split decision.”

Ioan actually beat Nicholas in the semi finals of the 2015 GB championships and then went on to beat William Birchall in the finals.

This Saturday it is Garan’s turn as he is boxing William Birchall in Eton and Sportsline will be keeping a close eye on this fight too.

The talented duo and their dad Guy their coach, headed straight for Betws, near Ammanford after leaving the Cardiff tournament, where co incidentally Cardigan had been playing rugby that afternoon, to take part in the Towy ABC show where some of their Cardigan ABC colleagues were competing.

Promising youngster Adam Lawrence was one of boxers on the card and he was up against his old adversary Joe Anthony for the sixth time and he didn’t waste a second getting to work. The young Letterston based athlete got on to the front foot from the start and kept up an exhausting work rate over the three rounds to win by a unanimous decision.

Adam will also be heading for Eton this weekend to box Felix Cash of Pinewood Star on Pinewoods show.

Another Cardigan talent in the shape of Cai Llewellyn was scheduled to box Tyler Phillips of Cwmgors, but with Cai weighing in a kilo light and Tyler a kilo heavy, the weight difference was too much and the fight was called off.

Llewellyn though had an exhibition with Joseph Daly, a novice from Caerau Ely, Cardiff to add to his experience.
