SWALLOWS BLOW EMLYN AWAY

Newcastle Emlyn 0 Llandysul 5

This top of the table clash between Newcastle Emlyn and Llandysul was all over after half an hour with the Swallows leading by four goals and looking like they were going to hit double figures at the rate they were scoring.

The reds had no answer to the power, pace and finishing quality of a team that are clearly on a mission and this title race could well be over by January if any of the teams below them slip up.

The message from the runaway leaders to their nearest rivals following this tenth win on the trot was clear enough and they are going to take some stopping in their bid to become Division One league champions for the first time in 68 years.

This 5-0 demolition of Newcastle Emlyn following a performance brimming with pride and passion showed that the Swallows are clearly head and shoulders above any other side in the division at the moment with the exception of Lampeter Town.

Adrian Hazelby set up the opener on ten minutes when his pin point cross was headed home by Ben Thomas and it was 2-0 very soon after when Hazelby finished powerfully from the edge of the box. Five minutes later it was 3-0 when a superb tackle from midfielder Terry Maynard saw the ball break loose for striker Simon Davies and he bamboozled his opposite marker before he picked his spot past Ian Hamilton. Worse was to follow for Emlyn as Hazelby fired home from the edge of the box from a  free kick to make it 4-0 and the game was dead and buried by this stage. Just before the interval outstanding Llan midfielder Ben Thomas and opposite number Ollie Evans were sent off after an altercation following a clumsy challenge.

Llandysul manager Chris ‘Coco’ Davies was understandably pleased as punch after the match and said:”  This performance for me personally was my proudest moment so far at Llandysul and the best result in my time at the club.

“ We have to keep our feet on the ground but we are going to be tough to beat and I am very proud of my players and they deserve every accolade they get.”

rob-davies-motors-1Emlyn joint manager Owain Thomas was also full of praise for the performance of the league leaders and said:”To be fair there is no doubt that Llandysul deserved the win as the game had gone from us halfway through the first half.

“When both players got sent off it became more even but still the game was over by then but I was pleased with the attitude of our boys as they never gave up in the second half which was good to see.”
