SEAGULLS SUFFER DEFEAT

Spar Mid Wales League

Division 1

Berriew 4 Aberaeron 2

After a mid-season break Aberaeron were looking forward to their encounter with Berriew following  defeat a few weeks ago and they started very well by controlling all aspects of the game and creating some good opportunities.

Unfortunately, the opportunities were squandered and Berriew began to have more of the ball as the game went on and created some good openings forcing seagulls keeper Barry Edwards into making three terrific saves early on.

http://www.eandmmotorfactors.co.uk/A lapse in concentration saw outstanding forward Richard Davies pick the ball up in midfield and he ghosted past a couple of defenders to calmly pick his spot and put the home team ahead. Once again, this season, Aberaeron conceded just before half time and were left to rue the missed chances that they created.

Immediately after the re-start the visitors created an excellent chance that Dave Evans put narrowly wide and Berriew promptly ran up the other end of the field and scored a soft goal when Davies ran through and narrowly beat the goalkeeper to the loose ball to score his second.

The seagulls responded immediately and began to control the game and the breakthrough came when following a slick passing move, Matty Davies scored an excellent team goal but before the black and ambers could start thinking about a memorable comeback at 2-1, Berriew, scored a brace through Davies who completed his hat trick and talented number ten Karl Seliaerts to put the result beyond doubt.

Jason Jones and his men though did not give up and they reduced the deficit when following another excellent team move Gareth Severs netted.

http://www.ocdavies.com/Speaking after the match manager Jason Jones said: “ We are very disappointed with the result having played well and created some good chances, but inevitably we have to accept that good teams convert their chances and maintain concentration to ensure that they do not give away easy goals.

“The players will need to dust themselves down, put a little extra effort in training where possible and ensure that lessons are learnt.

“Berriew were a decent team who played good football and they did it well. Our game plan was a similar one but if I am honest they did it better on the day and their strikers took their chances.

“I thought there wasn’t much in it and either team could have won.”
