Cardigan Diamonds 32 Cardigan Aces 22

Last season’s league winners and runners up, played each other early in the 16-17 season. The first half of the game was very close, with scores of 7-5 at the end of the first quarter) and 14-11 at half time to the Diamonds (pictured above). Both teams battled hard for ball possession, the ball speeding up and down the court from end to end. Superb defensive efforts by both keepers Ellie Rose and Hayley Morris – nominated player for the Aces, flowing passing down the court and intricate passing around the attacking circles ensured both shooters ,Bev Sime and Sarah Jones had plenty of opportunities to add to the score. The third quarter of the game saw the Diamonds extend their lead 24-16 and a final score of 32-22. Nominated player for the Diamonds was wing attack, Elin Rees.

Cardigan Diamonds enjoyed a very competitive game against Aberystwyth University’s top team and eventually came through for a well deserved win. Cardigan kept their composure in a tense battle for the ball with defensive players Delun Evans and Vicky Reed, linking well to get the ball from defence to centre player Tam Balmer (nominated player of the match).

Tam continually worked for the ball, linking all areas on court whilst accurately feeding the shooting circle. Classy goal attack Chloe Miles worked hard to gain optimum shooting angles in the circle, backed up with the accuracy of goal shooter Bev Sime. After a hard fought battle, Diamonds took the win, 32-13.

A confident performance from the Pearls ensured a convincing win against the university B team. Keeping Aberystwyth’s shooting opportunities to a minimum, the solid defence of Catrin Davies (GK), Catrin Reed (GD) and Willow Balmer (WD) made it very difficult for the students to even get the ball into their shooting circle. Time after time, the defensive unit regained possession and worked the ball seamlessly down the court to Cardigan’s attacking circle. Cardigan’s young goal shooter, Chloe Bowen (nominated player of the match once again), maintained her high shooting percentage with confident goal shooting from all areas of the scoring circle.
