POWELL BACK WITH HIS TROOPS

FRIDAY RUGBY PREVIEW

Division One West

Felinfoel v Crymych

Llanelli is the destination for Crymych tomorrow afternoon when they resume their Division One West campaign after a fortnight off.

There was no fixture last weekend although team captain Tom Powell didn’t have a day off as he was asked to play for Newcastle Emlyn in the WRU Championship match away at Glynneath and the inspirational leader was one of the outstanding players on the park. Those behind the scenes at Ddol Wiber made no secret of the fact that he would be very welcome to switch full time to the red and white strip such was the impact that he made.

Powell though will be heading east to the northern borders of Llanelli to the King George Field and to a place made famous by the beer and he and his team mates will be looking forward to necking a few glasses of ale tomorrow evening in celebration of a win.

Felinfoel started the season off with a bang with victories over local rivals Llangennech and Llwchwr but they have lost two on the bounce since then, with defeats at the hands of Aberystwyth and Gowerton although they were very unlucky against the Ceredigion side as a last minute try and conversion cost them dearly just as they were about to cross the finishing line.

Felinfoel who have been in this division for five years can call upon a number of players with experience at the higher level and are a very difficult team to beat on home turf. They will be prepared, as they will be well aware that the Preselimen took away the 100% record of fierce rivals Llanelli Wanderers just recently.

The Crymych coaches have made a few changes to their line up with Rhys Davies back at stand off alongside Mathew Roebuck who was so impressive against the Wanderers. Davies replaces the inform Jake Jenkins who was red carded in the last home game after picking up two yellows.

Carwyn Phillips returns from duties at Newcastle Emlyn and slots into the centre alongside Llyr Edwards. Tomos Phillips is at full back with Guto Harries and Nick Bevan on the wing.

Lewis Davies,Aled Harries and Ryan McVeigh make up the front row and Rhys Davies and Dion Gibby, another who had a big game last time out pack up the scrum with Dylan Phillips, skipper Tom Powell and number eight Guto Davies forming a reliable trio at the base of the scrum.

This promises to be a tight affair with little to choose between the teams but nevertheless a chance for Powell and co to sneak another away win.
