Team of the moment Lampeter Town have pulled out of their Central Wales Challenge Cup tie this afternoon at Kerry as they have been unable to raise a team.
This will surprise many followers in Costcutter League circles as the north road men have been on fire as a club over the past six weeks, beating all in front of them and it would have been an excellent test for them against the former J. Emrys Morgan Cup winners.
Lampeter skipper Luke Lovell informed Sportsline yesterday that he was struggling for a team with eight first team regulars missing but many will no doubt ask, why has the club not dipped into the reserve team as Lampeter Reserves are also in good form this season? However with almost a whole team missing it would have been very difficult especially at short notice with all the travelling involved.
Cilgerran Rovers though are definitely playing and they take on Newbridge on Wye, a club based near Llandrindod Wells. Newbridge play in the second division of the Spar mid Wales League and are struggling near the bottom and have been conceding plenty of goals.
They will not enjoy the physical approach of the Rovers and expect them to moan all afternoon and if Neil ‘Mogs’ Morgan and his men have a real go today they can win this one.
Cardigan make the long trip north to the Cae Marian Ground Dolgellau for a Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo and the Magpies have been forced to call their reserve team game off as the first team were short and without the assistance of the second team they too would have had to pull out.
Dolgellau Athletic fired six past Newbride on Wye last weekend in the Spar and are going well with six wins from eight and it looks a very tall order for Iestyn Evans and his men today.
Newcastle Emlyn take on Borth Reserves of the Cambrian Tyres first division and the reds face a tough game against a side flying high in third place with just two defeats from nine games.
Sam Skinner is missing from the squad but there is plenty of cover for a team that is playing some lovely football and Borth will have their handful especially in defence with talented youngsters in the shape of Ben Thomas and Dion Davies in fine form.
There is also cup action at the School Field this afternoon where SDUC are the visitors and expect plenty of goals in this league cup encounter as the students conceded 15 against Maesglas last week!
In Division One leaders Llandysul return after a fortnight break with a short trip to Felinfach and Chris Davies and his men are expected to settle back into their winning ways following sevens wins on the bounce.
Crannog, a side that have improved after a bumpy start, entertain Aberaeron Reserves and Dylan Vaughan Evans and his team should have too much for the seagulls whilst Bargod Rangers will make the long trip north to Llanddewi Brefi looking for their first win of the season.
The match of the day in division two takes place at Parc Troedrhiw where division leaders Ffostrasol entertain Maesglas and the Blues who fired 15 past SDUC last week will have a real game on their hands this afternoon.
Manager Paul Jones will be looking to last week’s man of the moment Dan Jones who fired six goals past the students, to reproduce the goods this afternoon against a team who are not conceding many and who are playing with plenty of confidence.
The visitors though are going to have to contain Dion Phillips who returns after missing last weeks game and Dion Davies, if they are to win this one.
Only two games remain in the Reserves Cup this afternoon as Cardigan and Lampeter have pulled out. Bargod Reserves entertain Felinfach Reserves and Llandysul Reserves
Res take on Ffostrasol Reserves. A win for the swallows would put them back on top of the table.
