CRYMYCH BACK WITH A WIN

Division 1 West

Crymych 47  Llwchwr 21

Crymych bounced back following a heavy defeat away at Felinfoel to beat Llwchwr at Parc Lloyd Thomas.

The overall performance was far better than the previous week especially in defence where first up tackles were far more aggressive and they managed to contain the visitors during the early exchanges.

Outside half Rhys Davies opened the scoring when he danced his way through the Loughor midfield to cross wide out but the visitors hit back midway through the half with a try from centre Morgan Bryant which was converted by Peter Smiriglia before Crymych skipper Tom Powell dived over under the posts to put his team ahead again.

The visitors came back strongly and their hard work paid off when scrum half Smiriglia sneaked over for a try but further tries from Crymych full back Gethin Gibby and busy inside half Mathew Roebuck all converted by Davies gave the hosts a healthy half time lead and a bonus point in the bag.

The Preselimen upped the tempo after the break and played some splendid attacking rugby and they were rewarded for their efforts when hard working number eight Guto Davies dived over for a try. The match was then sewn up with two tries in quick succession with the first of these a penalty try and the second of these a try from replacement Dylan Thomas with outside half Davies adding three more conversions to his tally.

Bryant added a second try late on but he and his team were well beaten by this stage.

Hard working flanker and skipper Powell complimented his team on their overall performance and said:” This was a very good turn around from last week, especially with a bonus point as well.

“I was pleased with our performance generally especially our set piece game.

“I must give credit to Aled Harries and Ifan James as they carried the ball very well and our backs looked dangerous and hopefully this win will set us up nicely for a difficult cup match next weekend away at Abergavenny.”
