TWO GOAL PHILLIPS EDGES OUT MAESGLAS

Fancied title contenders Ffostrasol won the big battle of the day in division two with former Rangers striker Dion Phillips grabbing two very good goals for The Wanderers

The visitors who were missing five regulars got off to a slow start and the Blues went close with a few half chances before Ffostrasol took the lead when Gwynfor Bowen broke down the flank and his cross was bundled over the line by Dion Davies off a home defender.

Maesglas bounced back when Myles Harrison who had an excellent game, dribbled towards the near post and his ball across goal was just enough to see former Cardigan Town striker Samba Loum get a touch to make the game all square.

Phillips regained the lead for the visitors when he ran on to a long punt out of defence which bamboozled the Blues defence and the talented seventeen year old tucked his shot away with aplomb.

Maesglas dominated much of the second half and they were rewarded for their excellent play with two goals in quick succession. The first of these came from a long throw which was headed home by Billy Myers past Marc Jones and the second a superb effort from Samba Loum to put the hosts ahead.

This double whammy proved to be a wake up call for the Wanderers as they came storming back to equalise when Aled Rumble headed home a Sion Evans cross and a winner duly arrived ten minutes later when front runner Phillips picked up the ball from a throw in, turned his marker and fired into the net from just inside the penalty box.

The Blues were left scratching their heads after dominating much of the play but with nothing to show for it but credit to the visitors for tucking away their chances.

Pencader were forced to cancel their fixture with Llanboidy due to a waterlogged pitch and feelings were running extremely high amongst players and supporters as this was the only match called off in the Costcutters and on a Pencader Park pitch that has had over 60k spent on it recently. Manager Kevin Evans had no choice but to call the game off early as his strip would have been ruined for the rest of the season.

In the Reserves Cup Llandysul Reserves posted the highest score of the day when they fired eleven past Felinfach Reserves with striker Chris Harries helping himself to four of the goals for the visitors.

The young Swallows team started brightly against an under strength home outfit who only had ten men and Llandysul were seven goals to the good by the half hour mark with the game all but over. Llyr Jones and his men added four more to their tally after the break with Iwan Jones and Jack Thomas claiming two apiece and there were singles for Dyfan Davies, Ollie McEnery and John Jones with Harries leading the way with four.

Lampeter Reserves made the long journey down to Cae Dandre worthwhile as they came away with three points following a hard fought victory.

The visitors who started very positively went ahead after only a few minutes when Gareth Young was on target with a deflected shot. Shortly afterwards Lampeter doubled their lead with a goal from Nessim Aroussi from the penalty spot after Dafydd Makepeace had upended an opponent and the game was put to bed when David Lewis fired home a long range effort to make it 3-0 just before half time.

Llanboidy played much better in the second half and pressed Lampeter more, thus creating more chances and they were eventually rewarded when a smart piece of play from the hosts produced some space for wide man Rhodri Lloyd and he managed to slot the ball home on his debut.

Four goals from Bargod Rangers front runner Rhys Evans earned the Parc Puw men a 4-2 win over Ffostrasol Reserves at Parc Troedrhiw. Cai Edwards and Ethan Davies were on target for the Wanderers.

Newcastle Emlyn Reserves fought out a 3-3 draw with their Crannog counterparts with Gethin Rees, Matthew Toft and Dan Robinson on target for the Llangrannog men.
