THOMAS PENALTY EARNS EMLYN A DRAW

POSITIVE START FOR DREIGIAU ON OPENING DAY.

Llandybie 3 Emlyn Dreigiau 3:

Newcastle Emlyn Dreigiau opened their account in the new WRU pilot scheme against Division 3C teams with a hard fought 3-3 draw at Llandybie.

The hosts who were runners up last season boasted a very heavy and physical pack but they didn’t get much change out of the Dreigiau forwards with front row stalwarts in the shape of Barry Evans, Bedwyr Davies and Dai Bryant using their experience to good effect.

Llandybie opened the scoring with an early penalty but the first half, played in atrocious conditions was a rugged affair with few real scoring chances although the Emlyn back row of Carwyn Morgan, Chris Ludgate and Gareth Stevenson were forced to put in some big hits to drive the opposition back.

Experienced campaigner Barry Thomas levelled matters for Emlyn with a well struck penalty and the fly half kept things simple in the horrible wet and windy weather along with his half back partner Gwyndaf James.

The scores were locked at 3-3 at the break and there were very few opportunities for skipper Aled Davies and his men after this with the deteriorating weather making life very difficult on the opening day of the season and both teams cancelled each other out with the Emlyn backs having very few chances to make inroads but the likes of centre Emyr Jones and midfield partner Curtis Bradford were solid in defence and the game ended in a stalemate.
