HARRISON SINGING FOR THE BLUES.

COSTCUTTER DIVISION TWO ROUND UP

Aberporth 1 Maesglas 2

Maesglas were given a few scares by a hard working and committed Aberporth side before they finally secured the three points at the RAE Ground with a 2-1 win.

There were a few new faces in the hosts line up including goal keeper Liam Wolley who had not played between the sticks for over four years and he performed heroically on the night and kept the score line down with some super saves.

Maesglas finally managed to scrape a goal midway through the first half when a mix up in the Aberporth goal area allowed the ball to fall to Blues striker Myles Harrison and he managed to toe poke the ball out of the keepers grasp and into the net for a deserved lead.

The hosts came back strongly and caused a bit of panic in the Maesglas defence before the visitors broke away via a goal kick which found Myers and he flicked the ball over the top and into the patch of Harrison who nipped in and rounded the keeper to put the Blues two up at the break.

Aberporth pushed right up the field after the interval and were rewarded when Liam Griffiths headed home from a free kick to half the deficit and in the dying minutes Griffiths and co were unlucky not to score an equaliser when a shot from John Midgely rattled the crossbar much to the relief of the Blues players and the ball was cleared.

Maesglas absorbed the pressure as their opponents pushed hard for an equaliser and they  almost scored a third late on when Josh Mellor put Kyle Rowland in on goal but his shot was scrambled off the line.

Pencader 2 Ffostrasol 2

Pencader picked up their first points of the season when they held Ffostrasol to a 2-2 draw but Kevin Evans and his men had enough chances to win in the last ten minutes but they were thwarted by some superb defending from the Parc Troedrhiw outfit.

It was the hosts who dominated the start of the game and they deservedly took the lead when Zak Morgan fired home from a corner. This seemed to spur the visitors into action and they pulled a goal back when Gwynfor Bowen was first to react in the box to score.

Ffostrasol enjoyed the territorial advantage in the opening quarter after the break following a a change of formation with former Bargod Rangers striker Dion Phillips very prominent and they took the lead on the hour when Deiniol Glyn smashed the ball home from the edge of the box after Pencader had failed to clear from a corner.

The visitors then sat back on their lead for the remainder of the game and as Pencader piled on the pressure a goal eventually arrived when Ashley Summers netted. He and his team went all out for glory in the final few minutes but the Ffostrasol defence held firm and the game ended at 2-2.
