CARDIGAN RUN AMOK AGAINST SAINTS

WRU BOWL: Round 1.

Cardigan 92 St Davids 7:

Cardigan warmed up for their crunch league meeting with Milford Haven this weekend with another hammering of St Davids, this time in the WRU Bowl competition.

The Card’s inflicted a very heavy defeat on the Saints at the King George for the third time in as many weeks and this huge score was the biggest of them all and had it been a  boxing match the towel would have been thrown in on the hour.

The Saints had struggled to get a team together for this Bowl encounter and maybe not surprising after they had already lost to the Cardi’s very heavily in the Pembrokeshire Cup and in the league in recent weeks. But full credit to Saints coach Matthew Williams and his men for making the journey in what were very difficult circumstances and they did well to fulfill the fixture. Many teams would have pulled out regardless of the sanctions that could follow and hats off to them.

The game was though effectively all but over by half time with blind side flanker Colin Davies helping himself to three tries and there were touchdowns for Emyr Harries, Llyr Jones and skipper and number eight Llyr Griffiths. Outside half Luke Rogers slotted over five conversions.

Davies who was impressive in both attack and defence added two more to his try tally after the interval as did winger Jones and there were a couple of tries for impressive scrum half Aaron Evans and one apiece for Dafydd Watkins and Llyr Tobias. Rogers landed another six conversions to complete a fine afternoon with 22 points to his name.

The visitors did manage to cross the Cardigan line much to the delight of the home crowd
with hooker Neil Thomas claiming the score from a driving lineout, and full back John Miles added the extras.

Another easy win for Cardigan but a far more difficult challenge awaits them this Saturday as they take on Milford Haven one of the teams with an eye on promotion and who beat the Cardi’s when they met back in April.
