Early pacesetters Llandysul chalked up their second win of the new campaign after they over ran Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw to win by 4-1.
Swallows front runner Simon Davies made the most of his teams superiority by bagging an excellent hat trick and on this form Chris Davies and his men are going to take some stopping and Aberaeron Reserves are going to have their hands full this weekend.
Adopting a 4-4-2 formation Davies and his men started brightly and were awarded a penalty after only five minutes when Simon Davies was bundled over in the box and centre half Dean Jones tucked the spot kick home. The visitors went further ahead on 23 minutes when some neat inter passing between Scott Thomas and Mathew Newbold sent Davies through to claim his first of the night after he rounded the keeper. Davies added to his tally shortly afterwards when he made the most of a sloppy back pass to put his team almost out of sight at the break at 3-0.
Bargod came back after the break and were well on top for the opening quarter and they pulled a goal back through talented teen Jay Shae but with 65 minutes gone Llandysul killed the game off when front runner Davies finished with a powerful shot to complete his hat trick and a comfortable win for his team.
Cardigan Town produced a Jekyll and Hyde performance to trounce Crannog at the King George by 6-0. The Magpies who were a shadow of themselves a week earlier albeit with a much weakened side produced an excellent show to claim their first win of the season and offer hope to their followers.
Caretaker manager Iestyn Evans who is rumoured to have stepped down last night after just a fortnight in charge was able to draw on midfielders James Evans and Emlyn George and new signing Lee Burrows to strengthen the team and this made a huge difference with Evans and George in particular outstanding.
Crannog though looked by far the best team in the opening quarter with the likes of Huw Reed, Rhys Davies, Chris Welch and Mathew Smith knocking the ball about with aplomb. However a goal against the run of play by Burrows with a long strike and a superb second by James Evans also against the run of play from a free kick knocked the stuffing out of the visitors and they never really recovered. Reed was very unlucky with a well struck free kick that smashed against the crossbar but his team were four goals down by the break when Ewan Jones and Joost Burki netted with the visitors in a right old pickle.
Town keeper Craig Woodford made a splendid save from former Newcastle Emlyn striker Gary Davies on the hour before Cardigan added their fifth when a deft header from the edge of the box by Sam Hall from a super cross from an impressive Rhys Prowse was half saved by Huw Morgan before it crossed the line.
Player manager Evans was given a chance to add another from the penalty spot but perhaps haunted by his bad penalty miss the previous week he didn’t strike it well and his effort was well saved by Morgan. However Cardigan had the final say when Sam Hall added the sixth goal to cap an impressive performance by the Magpies.
St Dogmaels bounced back from a narrow defeat at Parc Emlyn to beat Cilgerran Rovers by 4-1 at the School Field and it was very much ‘an all round team effort’ according to player manager Chris Thomas with skipper Jason Williams leading by example and Ashleigh Thomas recently returned from Australia also catching the eye after a lengthy break from football.
Another to impress was Rhys Jones and he got his team on track with the opener before goals from Ioan Owen, Tom Rogers and Jones with his second sealed the win. Gary Evans replied for the Rovers
There was a real ding dong affair at North Road where the home side eventually edged out visitors Newcastle Emlyn with a late winner from experienced campaigner Mark Rivers. The prolific scoring front runner had decided to hang up his boots after many years service but he couldn’t resist the smell of the dressing room and came back to haunt the reds.
Lampeter scored the opening goal when Gethin Hunter ran through the Emlyn defence and slid the ball under the body of the advancing keeper before Peter Almond replied for the visitors when he took full advantage of a mix up in the home defence and he drilled home his shot from the edge of the box.
There was little in the game going into the final quarter but Lampeter started to dominate heading into the final ten minutes and they went back into the lead with a goal from Szymon Konwiak. Emlyn though refused to throw in the towel and Almond struck to claim his second and just as the game looked to be heading for a draw up stepped Rivers to seal the win with a superb shot.
Felinfach collected their first win of the season following a hard fought affair away at Llanddewi Brefi. The opening half was played in a high tempo and there was a heated battle for possession but neither side could truly dominate, forcing the game to be scrappy and the half ended goalless.
But with the slope advantage the visitors pushed hard and they took the lead early on in the second half when Kieron Boyes was put clean through and he slotted home.
The game opened up as Dewi Stars searched for an equalizer but this let the Milkmen in for a number of clear cut chances to put the game to bed but they were unable to stick them away and this caused a nervy final few minutes but Felinfach managed to hold on for the three points.
