The eagerly awaited Alan Brown Cup final clash between Saundersfoot and Llechryd at Whitland CC turned out to be a very one sided affair with the North Pembrokeshire based outfit going down by 97 runs.
Llechryd who currently head their rivals in Division three of the Pembrokeshire League were no match for their opponents on this occasion and were well beaten over the two innings of 20 overs apiece .
The Teifisiders who got to the ultimate stage of this competition after beating Crymych and Pembroke Dock were missing a few key players for this two innings showdown and this soon became apparent as they were unable to get enough runs on the board.
Saundersfoot posted 138-5 in their first innings with Paul Mansbridge carrying his bat for 44 and he was well served by Sam Franklyn who made 34 and John Mansbridge who hit 23 not out.
Llechryd in reply were always struggling and had it not been for inspirational captain John Curran who made a half century and Mike Godfrey who made 15 the game would have been over at half time.
The Teifisiders though managed to just about stay in touch with their opponents when they ended on 108-8 with Tom Mansbridge doing most of the damage with 4-20 and his brother John taking 2-14.
Saundersfoot quickly added to their 30 run advantage in the second innings when Paul Mansbridge set about the Llechryd bowlers and he moved swiftly on to 34 and Franklyn chipped in with another important score and he also made 34 as his team reached 153-5 leaving Llechryd with a huge amount of work to do.
Skipper Curran and his men needed 184 to win at a rate of 9.2 an over and that would have represented a daunting task to most teams and realistically it was not going to happen against a side in form. The task was made even more difficult when Curran was out for 15 and there was very little resistance apart from Rhys Beard who made 20 and Llechryd were skittled out for 86 and well short of the winning total. Tom Mansbridge shone once again with the ball in hand and took 2-17 and Danny Caine took 3-17
