LLANDYSUL BOWLERS SHINE AT SKEWEN

Division 1: South Wales Cricket Association

There was an exciting finish at Skewen Memorial Park on Saturday where Llandysul managed to bowl out their opponents just as they looked set for a win with Ben Edkins and Llew Hughes claiming vital wickets.

Llandysul 202-8 (28pts)

Skewen 199-10 (8pts)

Home skipper Daryl Griffiths batting at five led by example and produced some valuable runs just when his team needed them, after a poor start and his knock of 64 along with 61 from Carwyn Evans laid a superb foundation.

Their impressive stand was ended on a century when Griffiths departed but his teams fifty over total of 202 looked as if it might be about 30 runs short against a talented Skewen batting line up.

However the hosts managed to skittle out the Skewen openers early on but some dogged batting by the father and son combination of John (34) and Jordan Jones (57) who put on 80 for the third wicket put the visitors back in the driving seat and they were coasting it at 100-2.

Llandysul though bounced back with a few quick wickets from seamer Farooq Shah which was followed by an important run out from Ben Edkins and the pressure was back on the visitors. Shah and Edkins chipped in with a wicket apiece late on as did Llew Hughes to set up an exciting final few overs.

The combination of Hughes and Edkins eventually managed to prise out the last of the Skewen batsmen with the visitors just four runs short of victory.

Llandysul seconds fell to a heavy home defeat against Kidwelly Town. The visitors made a total of 149-8 but in reply the hosts were all out for 100.
