Hunter Trials organised by the Tivyside Hunt attracted excellent entries last weekend with numbers up greatly from last year and boosted considerably by the dry weather.

Held at Trefach near Pantyderi by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Wyn Jones, the event pulled in a very healthy competition, aided by new cross country jumps of various sizes and these challenged both horse and rider with junior jockey Wmffra George (a Tivyside Hunt and Tivyside Pony Club member) being awarded the Members Cup for gaining the most points during the day.
‘Well! What can I say? It was an absolute fandabidosi day! Congratulations to all our competitors who travelled from near and far to support our hunt and who enjoyed a good days jumping! Everyone got round safely and no one fell in the river!,’ explained Maggie Campbell, Chairman of the Hunt.
She added: ‘A huge thanks to all of our helpers on the day – car park attendants, jump judges, scorers, commentator, doctors, the secretary and of course all our fence builders and course organisers, not forgetting our land owners and our sponsors for the event: the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, Coast & County Cottages a Peter Lewis Agri & Equi Supplies Ltd. Diolch yn fawr iawn.’
Anna Raymond, whose parents own the land was pleasantly surprised with the huge turnout.
‘There were so many other events on that weekend and we didn’t know how many would turn up, but we couldn’t believe it, they just kept on coming and we had a good number of competitors in each class. Some had travelled from other hunts, some from Tenby and even Llandeilo! It was fantastic,’ said Anna.
Tivyside Hunt members and friends had spent many weeks preparing the course, and had reinstated the popular steps fence as well as introducing more fixed fences for all to enjoy a mini Badminton course. They are currently looking for sponsors to sponsor a fence for the next event and anyone interested can get in touch with the Hunt direct. Profits from the 2016 event will be used to improve the course.
Results are as follows: Class 1. Cally Evans. 2. Carolyn Morgan 3 Pairs: Connie Crook and Joe Sherwy. 4. Abbi Painter 5. Petra James. 6 Pairs: Chloe Hudson and Claire Hudson 7. Sarah Evans. 8. Emma Molsley. 9 Pairs: Jo Shewry and Sarah Evans.
The next organised event is the annual sponsored ride. This ride goes over the Preseli hills and the views are spectacular. Lunch is provided just below Bedd Morris and there will be different groups of ability (one for speed and one for leisurely and one for laid back).
