Pembroke County Cricket League
Division 4
Llechryd 99 all out lost to Crymych 101 -3
Crymych were the victors of the local derby at the RDM Ground Llechryd where star batsman Richard Thorne top scored with a fine innings of 43 in very blustery conditions.
The hosts who batted first made 99 in total on a remarkably dry wicket and outfield considering the monsoon conditions the day before. All rounder Thorne was the pick of the bowlers and he took 4-17. Ioan Davies picked up three wickets, Rhodri Thomas two wickets and there was one for James George.
Llechryd skipper Ollie Roberts was once again the top scorer for his team with 24 and Peter Gregory chipped in with 23 before the hosts were eventually skittled out.
In reply Crymych started well and put on 49 for the opening wicket with Thorne in particular very elegant in his stroke making and he raced quickly on into the forties and looked as if he would bat straight through until he was bowled by Dafydd Davies with a quicker ball that moved sharply in the wind.
Wickets tumbled after this with Sam Kurtz finding the middle of the bat very early but he then guided the ball into the bread basket of gully.
Opener James George who had batted very solidly then departed soon after when he lost one of his stumps as he tried to pull a full toss out of the ground.
However the hosts managed to steady the boat and they coasted to victory with plenty of wickets and overs to spare with Rhodri Thomas and Hywel Davies at the helm.
Teenage bowler Dafydd Davies bowled very well in tricky conditions and he returned figures of 2-14 which included the prize wicket of Thorne from the delivery above.
