Castell Newydd Emlyn 7 Risca 0
Castell Newydd Emlyn continued their run of wins with another over Newport-based side Risca, beating them 7-0 on the weekend.
The score accurately reflects what was a great game for the home side, with Risca struggling to get out of their half for much of the visit. It may even have been higher had it not been for the talents of the visitors goalkeeper who made things very hard for Emlyn forward, Enfys Davies. Despite this, she still managed to get two past the white line in the second half and thoroughly deserved Dame of the Game.
Wales rugby international Nia Davies, on her debut for Newcastle Emlyn, scored three of the seven goals, putting in a real shift in both attack and defence. Coming on after 15 minutes the score was still nil-nil, but Davies quickly got into the swing of things and got the first goal of the game. This was quickly followed by her second, after which it was all down-hill from there for Risca.
Another goal was scored by Melanie Williams who has been welcomed back to the side after a season off. She put in a stellar performance as sweeper, causing quite a few problems for the opposition. Going into the second half with a three-nil lead, Emlyn had their tails up and it wasn’t long before Enfys Davies beat the goalkeeper to make it 4-0. Nia Davies completed her hat-trick to make it 5-0, followed by one from Mel Williams.
By now, Risca seemed to be thinking about a come-back, winning a short-corner and the opportunity to win a consolidatory goal. But the Emlyn defence remained strong and kept Risca off the scoreboard. A final goal from impressive youngster Ffion Davies brought the score to 7-0 and another well-deserved win from Newcastle Emlyn ladies who currently lead the Division 3 table with three games left in this first half of the season.
