Costcutter Ceredigion League Round up
Division 1
Division one high fliers Crannog faced a difficult task on the road against Aberaeron Reserves with five regular players missing but manager Rhydian Morgan and his side eventually came through for their fourth win on the bounce to maintain their unbeaten run.
Former Cardigan Town playmaker Rhys Davies opened the scoring for the visitors after sixteen minutes with a well struck shot and he and his side should have been well ahead by the break as they created plenty of chances.
Front runner Robbie Evans put the Llangrannog outfit further ahead on the hour when he scored with a free header from corner but a defensive lapse let in Lamin Manjang and he took full advantage to make it 2-1. Things got much worse for the visitors soon afterwards when they conceded a penalty and this was well taken by Sam Brammeld to level the scores.
However this stalemate did not last for very long as Crannog scored two quick goals to kill the game off through Brynley Morris and another free header from Evans to secure a hard fought win by 4-2.
Manager Morgan said that he was pleased to come through for the three points with a weakened team missing five key players due to holidays, injury and illness, but added:” We made it hard for ourselves as we missed several good chances and conceded two very soft goals, but it was a good win nonetheless in the circumstances.”
St Dogmaels made it five from five after they cantered to a 10-1 success over Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw with the points in the bag by the break with the visitors leading 5-0 after a couple of goals each from Peter Almond and Rhys Jones and one from Chris Morgan.
Jake Kelly pulled a goal back for Rangers following a rare foray into the Saints half with a well struck free kick which gave keeper Aaron Walters little chance.
Front runner Louis Harding who came on as a substitution in the second half bagged a quick fire hat trick in the second half before Jones completed his trio and there was a goal also for Jack Thomas to cap a promising showing.
Saints stalwart Steve Williams who confirmed last week on Sportsline that his touchline ban had been cut from three years to six weeks said he was looking forward to taking over the reins very soon and added :”This was a fine display of football and an excellent all round performance.
We probably should have scored many more and credit to referee Alan Jenkins who let the game flow.”
Two goals from teenage front runner Llion Williams saw Cardigan Town bounce back with a 3-1 win over Felinfach at the King George field. Williams who has shown some excellent early season form caused the milkmen plenty of problems with his pace and close control and the Magpies, who were well served by Ben Davies and James Evans in midfield, were well worth their win against a side that took until the second half to really get going despite claiming an early goal.
Hard working midfielder Tom Gardiner was also on target for the hosts whilst for Felinfach Kieron Boyes netted their solitary goal.
Llandysul can count themselves a touch fortunate to have secured a win at Tir Y Dref as Llanboidy deserved at least a point on the strength of their overall performance. The hosts who took the lead when Ellis Williams fired home looked to be heading for a draw before Llandysul nicked a winner late on. Chris Harris and Richard Evans with the winner were on target for the Swallows.
Division 2
Maesglas claimed the honours in the match of the day in division two after they overcame the challenge of local rivals St Dogmaels Reserves.
The Blues who enjoyed a fine win at Newcastle Emlyn the previous weekend continued where they left off with another decent all round team performance boosted by some well taken goals.
The Blues who were almost at full strength, included new signing Kyle Chillery in their line up and after a hectic first ten minutes it was the Saints who looked more likely to open the scoring.
However it was Maesglas who struck first when a pin point ball over the top from former Saint Marcus Dean found Johnny Rees, and his cross fell nicely to Arron Eldridge who finished clinically past young Saints goalkeeper Callum Phillips.
Another goal soon followed from the hard-working Myles Harrison who calmly finished from close range and the Blues then shuffled the pack by bringing on Garfield Davies and 16 year old Dylan Karlikiuc and both made an immediate impact when Davies put Eldridge away and his cross was met by Karlikiuc who made it 3-0 with his first touch of the game. Dean completed the scoring late on when he headed home from a corner.
The spoils were shared at the RAE ground after a hard fought affair between Dewi Stars and Aberporth ended at 1-1. Dan Nicoll was on target for the hosts and this was cancelled out by Stars striker Ifan Thomas.
A Steffan Rhys Evans hat trick helped steer Ffostrasol Reserves to a comfortable win over their Llandysul counterparts. Also on target for the Wanderers were Gethin Thomas and Owain Patterson.
Reserves Cup
In the Reserves Cup four goals from Tom Willoughby helped Lampeter Reserves cruise to a 8-0 success over Felinfach Reserves. First team striker Luke Lovell added a couple more and there was one apiece for Bryn Jones and Leighton Rees.
At Cae Dandre Llanboidy Reserves secured their first points of the season following a 6-2 victory over Maesglas Reserves. Llan striker Dafydd Jones led the way with a well taken hat trick and there were two for Sam Jackson to cap a fine performance. Ifan Jones added a sixth goal. For the Blues, Barry Jones and Carwyn Edwards were on target.
