It may have taken its time but it was very sweet when it arrived and it capped a much better week for Bow Street after a tough opening to the season.
The Magpies first league success of the current campaign and on the back of a win in the Welsh Trophy the previous weekend will have put the smiles back on the Cae Piod men and they will be looking to keep this run going when they take on Llanidloes tomorrow evening.
The home side came flying out of the blocks and wasted no time in getting stuck into their opponents, and took an early two goal lead. First, new signing Josh Krowl put over an exquisite cross from the left which was superbly headed home by Ben Jones. Then from a corner, Callum Ferreira stroked the ball home following a scramble and despite relentless pressure from the home side, and the odd breakaway from Churchstoke, there was no further addition to the score before the break.
Steff Richards scored early in the second half with a splendid right foot shot, and further goals were added by the evergreen Dean Evans, and young substitute, Shaun Jones. There could have been more as chances were squandered, but the Bow Street management will be more than happy with two consecutive victories, and especially with their first three points of the season.
Welshpool 1 Aberaeron 3
Buoyed by a well deserved win away at Builth, Aberaeron arrived confident for this Friday evening fixture and started well, but it was Welshpool who took control and began punching holes in the visitors defence and creating good opportunities.
However Will Thomas and co came up against an inspirational display by Aberaeron goalkeeper, Neil Evans who produced a top class performance with a series of last ditch saves. The hosts could easily have scored at least four goals but recent signing Evans kept the visitors in the game.
The seagulls created a few decent chances and Ifan Burrell came close when he burst through the defence but he pulled his shot just wide of goal. James Hemmings and Dan James worked tirelessly to nullify the talented home midfield and Steffan Gittins and Dave Evans came more in to the game and created decent opportunities.
The visitors opened the scoring when Gittins beat two players and linked with Ifan Burrell who shot across the goal and Gareth Severs was on hand to force the ball over the line for a 1-0 lead at the break. Playing down the slope Aeron created numerous chances with the lively and hard-working Burrell ploughing a lone furrow but creating problems for the home team and was very unlucky with one opportunity which just missed the target.
The seasiders doubled their lead when from a well worked corner Sam Brammeld drove the ball across the area and defender Elwyn Edwards rose above the home defence to score with a typical bullet header.
Burrel made it 3-0 with a powerful shot which took a slight deflection before Welshpool grabbed a late consolation goal deep into injury time.
Seagulls manager Jason Jones said he had been well chuffed with the performance of his team and added:”This was a cracking result for us against a very strong Welshpool team although Neil kept us in the game to be honest with a fine performance.
“We put the game to bed with the second goal and really showed our strengths and caused them plenty of problems all over the pitch.”
